mrdobolina: More gross generalizations.
And it's probably because you only look at your leftist special interest sites.

(Nov 3 06, 07:57)Nice way to completely contradict yourself in 20 words or less. I am making gross generalizations and then you make a gross generalization about me.
You don't know what news sites I visit. Just because I disagree with tons of things you believe in does not make me uninformed.

I'm saying his Church isn't some fringe form of American Christianity. He is mainstream leadership.

I hadn't heard of Haggard until I saw a youtube video of him and Dawkins chatting. And I've been in the evangelical community for 17 years or so.
What you need to realize is that protestant Christianity is not like Roman Catholicism. We look to the Bible as our authority, not preachers on TV.
- mrdobolina0
but 30 million people do look to the tv, why can't you get it thru your head?
- Brookoioioi0
"We look to the Bible as our authority"
Not a good start to a logical argument.
- flagellum0
mrdobolina, if you attended an evangelical church or Christian bookstore, you'd know full well that the church denounces people like Benny Hinn, etc...
- mrdobolina0
umm, no thanks.
- mrdobolina0
benny hinn is "the church" in many peoples eyes, you understand that right?
- flagellum0
Brookoi, sure it is if there is historical support for it's validity. As it turns out, there is overwhelming support.
- flagellum0
"umm, no thanks".
And that's why you can't make a sound argument on this issue.
- TheBlueOne0
Flagellum I think you're being naive. These populist christianist evangelicals rake in tons of cash, influence peoples lives through their interpretations of the bible, create voting blocks and have had the ears of US presidents for a few decades now...Haggard recently, Billy Grahm, etc.
Can YOU talk to the president? Can I? Can WE influence national public policy with a freakin' phone call? Nope..but these powerful fakirs can - by the money they make and the votes they can "deliver", and Dobs is right that it IS the real christians out there who should be rooting them out, and not passively accepting them.
- Brookoioioi0
No, its a work of fiction and you a just plain wrong.
- flagellum0
BlueOne: Again, this reasoning commits the Genetic Fallacy. If your point is that evangelical Christianity is somehow wrong because those claiming to represent it do bad things, you've committed a logical error. By this reasoning, it is also true because Billy Graham is without any serious scandal, for example. It's silly. And regardless, everybody sins.
And why would a horrible mistake that Haggard made in his personal life invalidate what he believes, or what he communicates to others in positions of authority?
- flagellum0
Brilliant response, Brookoioi.
- Brookoioioi0
thankyou. Now go away.
- flagellum0
Now now...
you scram.

Hypocrisy. Lack of Integrity. What don't you get about that?
- flagellum0
Sorry, BlueOne. Again, Genetic Fallacy. If his lack of integrity invalidates the entire faith, then those with great personal integrity validates it.
It's faulty reasoning.
- TheBlueOne0
Oh bugger off. You are delusional. "Genetic Fallacy".
It's the fucking hypocrisy.
