and if we go with mouse ears - take that shit off the photos! The photos are great, and I don't think they need messing with. let them speak on their own, and let the logo take care of itself.

What moth said.
The script reflects the sentiment of the context more so than the slightly corporate mouse ears.
The contrast of that with the sans text on the posters is really effective.

on a positive note, i think it's nearly there.
i don't think we need anymore new ideas logo-wise. Just perfecting one...

great, I don't agree, but you know what, clearly the argument is wasted here, but anyways good to know...

'nice' design, as in, they would look nice in a design book. To me they dont really work as a poster, they certainly don't give up any information very easily, and the imagery looks somewhat like Dov Charney had his hand in it.
I thought this was for the homeless , is that no longer the case? Is it for femals victims of domestic violence now?

Dov Charney vs Carla Van de Puttelaar

well Baskerville.. I'm sure we all know that.
Snuggles should just choose something and go with it, rather than keep posting things for comments and wasting his time going in circles.
This had better not happen with the website/t-shirts/flyers though because i for one will not have the time to play around with it forever.

haha, baskerville...
but I can only blame myself for not putting my foot down, and as much as I wanted this to be a nice project for me, it can't be about me and only in accordance with my sensibilities..I have been surprised by what people have been reacting positively to and what message people feel is the priority... I feel the seriousness needs to be conveyed and takes greater precident than the fun that may/will be had, which one would imagine is a given and up to the individual, at a night of partying... that's not to say the info shouldn't be more obvious, but at this time I still don't have all the info...
- mr_snuggles0
and no moth, once this is settled it'll just be rolled out to the other components... I would hate for you to get angry at anything...
once again though, I'm still missing a lot of key information... like the names of ALL the bands that are playing?

dear snuggles,
you are an extremely competent designer, more so than a great deal of NT, imho. You should indeed do what you like and stand by your decisions, look back over your work, remove any self concious dilutements and serve us up the raw product, how you would like to see it.
And let that be that, I have faith in ye.

if you don't mind dodging another tuppence, I think focusing too much on the serious issue will make it seem too po-faced to pull in any punters - people first and foremost will wont to go and have fun and see a good band IN AID of a good cause, but pushing the horror of domestic violence too much will turn them off. people are pretty simple at the end of the day, a serious night out wont look like too much fun. That's overstating it obviously, but you know what I mean.
- mr_snuggles0
I agree kelpie, but I think we're not pushing the horror of it at all here, I think the images are dignified, eye-catching and still sensitive and they relate to the issue in a very unconventional but recognisable way... If anything I would say they might be mistaken for a gallery opening/exhibition, but if our target is still mostly media-based types, then it ain't a bad thing...

I think we should think of this as if Gimme Shelter was a client and snuggles is the designer we hired. He has put forward ideas, a client is allowed to comment and state what they feel the message is, but there is a deadline for the project to be completed which should be lost sight of.
In reality we can discuss this for as long as we want but the main way that people will be attracted to the gig will be via word of mouth from friends and colleagues and via listings in papers/magazines. It's unlikely that posters will be a mass form of communication. It would be nice if they really did capture the public's imagination and attract them to the gig. But I think their use will be more once they get to the gig to give them some memorable branding that they will be reminded of when the february event happens.
That way they will have something recognisable to jog their memory.
For that reason I think the ID should be simple and inyourface. I don't think there's too much room for subtlety here. The music is not subtle and the reference to domestic violence shouldn't be subtle either. It also needs to jump off posters fly-posted up in any location on the street ie big and bold.
my 2¢
FIN.

ugh.
nevermind.i'm going back to my code.
snuggles - put your foot down.
- mr_snuggles0
I don't agree, it's an issue that should be communicated with a wink and a nudge of acknowledgment and understanding, it's not something to be shouted across the street...
