I was just watching Fox News (yeah thats right... back off twits!) and they were discussing the new 'red' campaign ..
... Bono and Bobby were both on there...
... anyway - Bono said something about the Gap that blew me away...
They're giving 50% of their profits to 'red'...
... WOW!! impressive and a solid role model for other companies... 50%!!!!!
... I think I'll go buy me a 'red' t-shirt from the Gap. :) This is a great idea and I'll be proud to buy!!

I almost time lined this Pony, but then I forgot that the Project Red campaign is now only going public, haha.
This iteration has been in the works within the One organization for awhile, and if memory serves me correct there was a first wave of this last year to get a general feel on how this would go over.

witt... those 'red' t-shirts are 100% african cotton made in africa...
"nothing changes, except the copywriting"....
... i don't think your comment holds much water. :)

correction Ponyboy,
they only give 50% of the (RED) profits. not ALL profits.
- PonyBoy0
oh... i know soler... I didn't make that clear...
... but that's huge, regardless of what sells... for 'any' corporation to 'give up' so-to-speak.
- Soler0
I still say, "f" the gap
- flavorful0
Oh they make it back.
01. Free Advertising.
02. Tax Breaks.
03. That's really all anyone needs to type, haha.

apple is giving 10 bucks from the sale of a red nano.
I think i just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
- Witt0
maybe i'm wrong...
i hope i'm wrong.but i just think there's going to be a huge boost on sales, and taxes and knowledge remain where they always were. There's no real input in those countries. Dropping all the money in the world in Africa wouldn't develop it. Coz... it's not about the money.
- PonyBoy0
wow... i was expecting more of a positive response from this group...
the Gap isn't the only participant... I was just using them as one example...
... converse, apple... motorola...
there's more...

i'd buy the ipod and the t-shirt for sure. but in less than 2 weeks everyone on the planet are going to be wearing them as fashion statements, not as a statement against aids. and i sure as shit don't want to be a part of that crowd.

- Soler0
dont get me wrong, i'm down with corps giving away as much cash as possible.. i just still ain't wearin' no gap shit
- Gucci0
i wonder if the local rub n' tug is giving money away to africa....
i'd get behind that.

*steps out of thread - //realizes this is all about fashion and money
I seriously am a little 'taken' by your (people posting in this thread) reactions to this campaign...
...this IS NOT to develop Africa (witt!!)... it's to provide for those w/Aids...
... its an Aids Fund for Africa - so it doesn't exactly educate the World/USA masses on Aids and Africa - but IT DOES HELP?!
I can't believe how you guys are brushing this off...
...this is a wonderful thing...

(Oct 13 06, 11:51)reminds me of those yellow 'live strong' bracelets
but you can't really help what proliferates into the masses

---and why would you want to stop the proliferation of such a campaign?!!!!!
Livestrong is a fantastic foundation and if my armband hadn't of broke I'd still be wearing right now... it goes hand-in-hand w/cancer and has made plenty of people more 'aware'...
... ya'll are taking this like it's some 'fashion statement' and absolutely missing the point...
... you seem 'worried' to appear in public being 'seen' in Gap more than you care about the program... SO DON'T WEAR THE FUCKING SHIRT...
... you're totally missing the point and I can see the 'idea' failing if the rest of the 'masses' as some of you say 'think' like you do.
not to further the amount of 'ignore lists' I'm probably going on... but ya'll need to grow up.

There are credit cards for this too, so if you don't shop at these specific stores cash still gets kicked back somehow if you use it.
I'm not against it, it will raise money, and that's the main goal of this program.
I do work with One organization, and also know that there is always alterior motives for companies especially when it's under the guise of helping others.
I guess I'm just jaded.
I do a lot of charity work, and at the same time I've always kind of found it weird to help out other countries, when the cities we live in are fucked up as well.
Inner-cities are just fucked up for kids growing up in them, Chicago is doing a lot in this aspect and I think it's great.
I just always feel a blind eye is being cast on our cities here which shouldn't happen at all.
