I am a small country boy from Nebraska, heading to New York City... What should I expect? I am scared my suspenders and straw hat won't fit in...
Any good "artsy" things I shouldn't miss other than MOMA?

Expect everyone to be rude and inconsiderate, unless of course they need something from you. Especially getting on and off the Subway. There's something that happens to people during that split second of living that makes them so fucking ignorant and selfish i could go on a killing spree.
Also, expect the unexpected. I've toured the midwest twice...it sucks. Get ready for some culture buddy!

people that lived in nyc their entire life are cool. people, especially women, that move to nyc after college think they are the shit.
not in all cases but this was my experience.

haam is wrong on both points. 1.the midwest doesn't suck, and it makes you sound like one of the assholes you are talking about. and 2. every time i've been to nyc almost all the people are pretty cool. most are 'busy' but that doesn't mean they are not semi-courteous.

i personally don't think people are rude in ny. i guess cab drivers can be rude.it's very safe despite what you may have heard/seen on the news.
