sorry Valentim, I was being a bit argumentative there - Portugal does produce a good consistent crop of technical players. However I can't like them or the country because they see nothing bad in constantly diving and cheating to get wins. If they cut that out I'd like tham a lot better they play nice stuff.

they do have a habit if sticking it to Engerlund though, so I could be easily persuaded :D

Hugo Viana is a world class player with the unfortune of being picked by Newcastle a couple of years ago...its going to take years to recover...
- valentim0
Cristiano Ronaldo, its a girl with good football skills, but not the best of the bunch...Quaresma can easily play the same football, and Nani will make you cry soon...

Fact: Ajax and Sporting Club de Portugal, are by far the best football players producers in Europe. West Ham do have an amount of money invested in producing, but its not able to get 20-30 million a year out of it yet

Can't really call any of them Portugese guys as World Class. What have they won? Figo, and maybe Rui Costa, are the only world class players to come out of Portugal in the last decade or so.
Ajax seems to have dried up a bit too.
Arsenal have the best future, even if they did steal them all when they were ten :)

I'm sorry but Viana is an awful player.

I know what you mean, Figo, Rui Costa etc.. So then in that case you have to include other portuguese players of the same generation, starting with Paulo Sousa. But thats not what I am talking about..I am looking at the future...and right now, there is more young promising players in Sporting, raised in Sporting than any other European Club. Therefore Portugal stands for the best country in that matter, wether they all make it or not its another matter... Watch em out´

I bet you are a Newcastle fan! bah

you know what.. Portugese football annoys the hell out of me. Everyone Portugese person talks about how great they are...
Rubbish. They play horrible football, and the club teams are woeful to watch. Diving, falling over. Apart from Porto (which was a fluke in my opinion, Deco the Brazilian won it), what has/have Portugese football won? Nada.
How can you compare the records of Portugese football to German, Italian or English football?
They aren't even on the same page in terms of honours.

Hey Kezza! Not comparing anything at all. Right now we are great. In the years to come will be very difficult to any of those teams to beat Portugal. And more, if we had the same money and capitalist power than some of the super teams of Europe, have no doubt that not only Porto would be winning! The problem we cant keep the players in our league...but they´re winning leagues and champions allover...you silly enough o think that English football is any better, stronger or nicer...

just as long people don't think Portugal is just about football, i don't give a shit. those fucking rednecks give us a bad image.

(Oct 9 06, 05:25)Poaching the best youth players is the future Kev, you only have to look at the quality you can get at low low prices these days if your scouting network is good enough.
Cheski even have their Football Icon programme on Sky to find young players.
I think the comment about Figo and Rui Costa being the only world class players to come out of Portugal in a decade isn't far off the mark.
- valentim0
muito bem! We are not just about football, being a nation that apprecciates it we dont kill, fight or burn flags! Or organize media "complot"!
- kezza_20
I don't think English football is all that great at the moment, but I ask again. What has Portugese football done in the last 10 years to warrent your praise?
Deco, Figo I'll give you, but who else? Ronaldo hasn't won a thing, Porto have disintgrated, Benfica are ok at best. Where are all these portugese players winning European leagues?
- jamble0
Deco is Brazillian, he wangled Portugese nationality I think.
Ronaldo has won the FA Cup but to be fair, it was against Millwall in the final!
I don't think the Portugese team are even remotely impressive. They haven't been for a long time. Christ, they couldn't even beat England in the last couple of tournaments without going to penalties.

Hugo Viana is a really good player. I think he struggles to fit into the system at Valencia (the manager is very defensive, and the team has a lot of attacking talent already), but he's certainly more suited to Spanish football. If he played for a mid-table team and was given some creative liberty, I think he'd be regarded as one of the top players in the world.

Deco in Barcelona, figoCosta in Inter, Miguel and Viana in Valencia, Maniche and Costinha in At.Madrid all the gang of Chelsea, CR in M.U. ...I dont know there is quite a few ones about that are potential league winners and champions strong participants...And WHAT? BENFICA? Now I lost all the respect!
