Making guns illegal is the first step, Witt.

------------------------------I really don't know, Crouwel. the principle is good and I would vote for it, but that doesn't mean that stuff like this wouldn't happen.
Of course, if you can buy a gun in a supermarket it's probable that some kids go out in the woods and by the big-number law of statistics something wrong will happen. But those are numbers. If you really want to create havoc, as these school-shooters do, you don't need guns. You can just poison the water lines or something. School-shooting episodes are not about guns imo. There are other reasons or the lack of reason at all.
Otherwise, you're right on general. In Portugal, like any other country in Europe, most of the homicide rate can be reported to legal hunting weapon owners. The gun is there, something goes wrong and it happens. But those are common homicide crimes. School-shooting is not a normal homicide.

janne, I see where you are coming from but let's erode only one or two of our civil rights at a time, ok?

You don't see that in GTA though. Games/movies count as well. Perhaps stricter rating..
oh well, it is a socially deeper rooted issue.
but still, banning guns is a good start.

(Oct 2 06, 15:01)hmm.. i thought the erosion was in full effect right now anyway, so, why not go with the flow?
it'd be interesting to see a slightly more massive scale.
freedom is such a utopia. i don't believe in it the way some idealists still do.
my 2 fucking eurocents though!

so stop selling guns or what? You would have to confiscate about a billion of them. not gonna happen.

Lisbon suburbia is already filled with bad taste in the form of 'extreme' personalized cars.
another proof that some people cannot handle the responsibility of owning a gun.

I dont' know. I particularly don't like violent video games (I played a few when I was a brat), nor do I think that it turns kids into mindless criminals -- but i'm willing to admit that in some limit, without parents, and on some stupid influence, it might lessen the value of human life.
If banning violent games solves this, I'm on because I don't like the principle anyway --- but I don't think episodes likes this wouldn't happen.

just games or movies, books, music? where does it end?

ofcourse videogames aren't just the prime cause of this all, but they do add to the influence! especially those kids who have shit for parents. rednecks, white trash, spoiled rich yet clueless kids, religious kids etc. etc.
if i ever would have kids, which i am not sure of, but if i do, i would raise them on my terms like any other parent. which means not too much games that only exist for the violence etc.

controlling your people is always about moderation.
i am tired of the notion that changing the rating or selected censorship means we have to burn our libraries.
that's got nothing to do with common sense, dobs.

In all honesty, I would say music has more of an influence on the gun culture in my country than the vids do.
Being an american, I am not keen on any civil rights being stripped away. Ill shit happened before 1970 anyway, way before video games.
