CarlClay, please don't quote Bertrand Russel out of writings for politics.
It was not his point as you know (i hope). I think you'll agree on this.

it fits.

-----------------------------ok man. but Russel (if anyone) deserves a bit more respect as he specifically retracted from politics. there's lots of people to quote from to the same purpose (not so good though).

a "war on worshippers of the cross" now.
fuck me... burning effigies of muhammed wouldn't go over too well, would it?
the aussie pm's comments were pretty much right on, if a little stinging for the country's islamists.

why are the people I disagree with on NT always anonymous and have gmail addresses and no web sites?
- exador10
because they're cowards?
;)
prolly cuz they go by another name here alltogether and they fully realize how left leaning most of us artsy types are...
even still though, there are always a few right-wing fundy's around here...
i guess they know they're outnumbered in a big way and don't want to be belittled for their political leanings... and at the same time, they see us talking and they obviously can't stand our opinions..... so they post anon....

We'll show them we aren't savages! Let's kill a whole bunch of people at random!

hyp?o?crite? [hip-uh-krit]
–noun
1. A person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.

"An al Qaeda umbrella group in Iraq has also vowed war on "worshippers of the cross.""
...werd...
so crude ignorance suggests that because of one man's comments, all the cross worshippers should be held responsible...
..brilliant strategy...
I guess they are really not trying to prove the Pope's remarks (sarcasm)

I'm assuming most of them did peaceful protests. But it seems overly dramatic to close down shops and burn fake popes in retaliation,

(Sep 19 06, 08:41)Probably because those in authority where I place my shoulder to the wheel are as intolerant of opposing political ideas as you are.
I have a counter-question for you:
Why is it that you feel the urge to demonize oppossing political views? I, speaking from that vantage, accept your politics as the other side of the democratic process of 'push and pull".
Geopolitically, I think your views are inherently infantile and have been proved by history to be consistantly wrong, again and again. But I don't feel you to be insane or unhealthy, just wrong.
Why don't you afford me and others of my political persuasion the same respect?

Cactus: it's much easier to compartmentalize and demonize, don't you know.

does this mean athiests are safe? i ain't no follower of no cross
- lowimpakt0
that's nonsense. If you think someone is a bigot, call them a bigot.
- flagellum0
jay: atheists worship self. And can be just as militant and intolerant as combative religious extremists.

(Sep 19 06, 09:24)Let's burn real muslims in response!!!! just kidding of course...
- flagellum0
and if you place them on simmer and stir slowly and frequently, your clergy should never burn.

----------------Sorry, in this context, does that mean you are in favor of Pope-burning? Just curious.
Also, ideas and arguments should be judged by their own merits, not the people who hold them. Who cares who is anonymous and who isn't. This is the internet anyways.

whens the last time you saw a army of atheists invading a country, killing thousands or embarking on death crusades in the name of their "faith"?
- lowimpakt0
cactus, it was hardly a point :)
but sometimes you have to say things the way you see them.
- flagellum0
There can be disagreement and spirited debate without intolerance and hate. Sadly, many here don't understand this.
