remember those "thank god I'm an atheist" badges the kids used to have? man, they were crap.

They burn effigies of the pope every year in Lewes, in East Sussex, UK on bonfire night. Crazy pagan fire festival –

Pope Bunnydick must be one of the unluckiest people alive. First he upsets Jews by inadvertently joining the Hitler Youth, and now he makes a completely innocent comment which is taken to mean that the Mud Slide Slimmers, unlike the Catholic church, who never for example had an Inquisition, once spread their religion by violence.

(Sep 19 06, 12:56)Surely that's not the point - the point is it's 2006 and they're still spreading their religion by violence whereas Catholicism has calmed down. You can't justify militant islam and condemn the current pope just because Chistians did it a few hundred years back.

"atheists worship self"
I thought atheists didnt worship anything? (its not compulsary is it? yet?)

Yeah, I know, you've dragged me down to your level.

cactus, you are doing exactly what you accused me of doing.

" Geopolitically, I think your views are inherently infantile and have been proved by history to be consistantly wrong, again and again. But I don't feel you to be insane or unhealthy, just wrong "
the absence of fact in your absolutist statemant is alarming... yea, the left has a bunch of nut balls.
but the little commie bastards have never wielded the absolute power team bush has...
and iran loves us for it.
you tighty righties have made them powerful... something the left will never lay claim to.
and lol, you called someone infantile while whining about name calling...
hypocrite.

Why is it that you feel the urge to demonize oppossing political views? I, speaking from that vantage, accept your politics as the other side of the democratic process of 'push and pull".
Geopolitically, I think your views are inherently infantile and have been proved by history to be consistantly wrong, again and again. But I don't feel you to be insane or unhealthy, just wrong.
Why don't you afford me and others of my political persuasion the same respect?

(Sep 19 06, 10:24)People are more important to me than geo-political economics. Sorry if you don't feel the same way.

Oh, and Republican aka, Balance, aka CarlClay...
Your a huge life loosing troll.
- pavlovs_dog0
Ratzenberg is a real shit head...
I guess that's what the Cardinals get for apponinting a senile old German.
So yea Ratz, all ya gotta do is make no waves after John Paul II...
Whoops! So much for that plan!
Too many westerners facing down militant islam like McCarthy, when they should be doing it like Machiavelli.
What a bunch 'a tools...

because they're cowards?
;)
prolly cuz they go by another name here alltogether and they fully realize how left leaning most of us artsy types are...
even still though, there are always a few right-wing fundy's around here...
i guess they know they're outnumbered in a big way and don't want to be belittled for their political leanings... and at the same time, they see us talking and they obviously can't stand our opinions..... so they post anon....

(Sep 19 06, 08:51)Why should people with right-wing political beliefs be belittled? Doesn't that go against the whole liberal left freedom idea?
I'm not anonymous, I'd place myself somewhere in the middle politically normally, but I've had enough of Islam in it's current form, think that while plenty of muslims are probably god people, there are plenty that shouldn't be living in the UK for sure. I've had enough of a state that panders to Islam and has become so scared of the religion that political correctness actually becomes supression. How is it that leaders of a faith can demand equality and attempt to suppress freedom of speech at the same time.
They can't have their cake and eat it.
I don't see how they can argue against being labelled as a violent faith, when the supporters of this claim burn an effigy of the pope. They prove their ignorance every time.

There can be disagreement and spirited debate without intolerance and hate. Sadly, many here don't understand this.

whens the last time you saw a army of atheists invading a country, killing thousands or embarking on death crusades in the name of their "faith"?
- lowimpakt0
cactus, it was hardly a point :)
but sometimes you have to say things the way you see them.
- flagellum0
why are the people I disagree with on NT always anonymous and have gmail addresses and no web sites?

----------------Sorry, in this context, does that mean you are in favor of Pope-burning? Just curious.
Also, ideas and arguments should be judged by their own merits, not the people who hold them. Who cares who is anonymous and who isn't. This is the internet anyways.
- flagellum0
and if you place them on simmer and stir slowly and frequently, your clergy should never burn.
