i'm starting interviews next week and am debating wether or not i will need a suit or anything that formal. i'm interviewing at some of the big agencies, but don't know what to expect. last year with visiting Lowe, i felt overdressed in black pants and a shirt.
basically, i don't want to drop the cash if i would be perfectly fine showing up in pants/shirt/tie.
any suggestions?

business casual...no need for a suit

save your money
dress shirt, sweet tie, slacks, dont skimp on shoes, if its cool out, kill em with a cardigan

i usually just wear slacks and a dress shirt...

depends, I have a pretty nice suit that is relatively casual, if I wear it with a shirt and no tie I can pull it off in any interview. Noone is ever going to be tweaked that you didnt wear a tie. If the guys in the interview are dressed way more casual, lose the jacket, done!

Black Pants / Shirt / Tie combo is money in the bank. In our industry, I think that there is rarely a need for a full suit.

I love when women interview at my job and dont know the difference from dressing up for an interview and going to the club.

I think it depends on who you are. Some people can bust out a suit and make it look like the coolest thing ever. Some people really do need to come with some clean pants, a nice t, some really crisp jeans and a cartigan. I like the cartigan look. It's something that a producer or CD can bring an AD along to a big client meeting as the "Creative guy repping the team and the culture at the office". Even clients like to see that.

shellie is one of them girls that dresses like she is going to the club when she interviews.

I'd say nothing more than a solid biz cas. No one on the west coast wears suits anymore.

thanks for the input. i feel the same way, but in speaking with my dad and a few of the people i work with, they were pretty adamant that i had a suit for some of the places. one girl said it would be very necessary, but she is on the business side of the firm. i feel like a shirt/pants/tie is formal enough, especially when half the creatives i've ever met wear jean shorts to work.

jeans, button down and suit with shoes
or
jeans dark denim, kicks, and a t-shirt
or
a stupid suit

I've never seen anybody wear anything other than jeans--swear to God

Yeah dobbie. You wish. Except that I'm one of the most conservative dressers in Los Angeles advertising.
What clubs do you go to? Mormons-R-Us?
- mrdobolina0
I hang out generally in line dancing establishments.

i was always taught to dress to the level of your target...not sure what you'd do if you knew buddy was a tux wearing weirdo ;)
you cant go wrong with business casual though
a nice pair of gavin chinos from banana republic and a light sweater or a striped dress shirt no tie...nothing wrong with that imo

wear really tight pants...
...show 'em the 'goods'... get's me hired every time.

shellie... we've seen your myspace pics. don't front!
i think i'm going to go for the nice other shit and not the suit. for one, it's not me and i'd be totally uncomfortable in it. on the other hand, a couple places i'm interviewing would probably prefer some hypebeast bullshit.

I always close all my interviews with one of these:
A. Stand
B. Pull out pockets
C. Unzip fly
D. Stare at interviewer and say:
"wanna see a baby elephant?"
... that's after they stared at my tight package for 20 minutes
