I would love to hear thoughts on the recent UK events from Americans. Since the UK’s government has a lot more rights for surveillance then the US does – do you think we would have been able to stop those attacks with our limits that have been placed on us by the ACLU?

i don't think surveilance in general is a major preventative factor...the limits are for other reasons, human rights and personl security, and wouldn't be imposed if there was a serious detriment to public security.

thanks khilled but it was the surveillance in the UK that stopped a potential disaster.
anyone else?

I heard it was a muslim tip off.

kyl3 I haven't heard that. What are the details to that story? How was the Muslim individual found? Did he or she come forward? Will you toss me a link?
The UK's surveillance laws would outrage the ACLU in America.

Wait, are you implying the US gov. does *not* conduct surveillance on it's population?
I don't think that's the case at all.

i thought it was a psychic who predicted this would happen.

(Aug 12 06, 10:12)I would certainly hope so and I would assume we do since there hasn't been another attack on US soil since 9/11.
You aren't suggesting that surveillance methods and tactics haven't been compromised by the media and by the ACLU are you?
I certainly hope not.

I think we can all agree that both the mainstream media and the ACLU are completely out of touch with reality and have both compromised our security tactics.
The main question was, now that the US government battles the secrecy of their tactics and are getting their hands tied, I doubt that we would have been able to stop what the UK has managed to prevent from happening if it were us because of these outrageous attempts to stop our government from doing what is necessary.
The UK seems to handle this fine.

Seriously though I don't really know much of O'Reilly and what I do know he is a religious man. I am not.
So to answer your typically off-topic question, no.
Now back to the topic...

How does trading away your rights that make you uniquely american for security square with you? The terrorists have won in your eyes?

The question in the topic that you seem to avoid is...
"Do you think we would have been able to stop those attacks with our limits that have been placed on us by the ACLU?"
