hey hey.. some cats here know their shit. canon 20D best ish for the price... hands down.
cmos better than ccd.
raw better than jpg... always.

a lot of people think nikon d200 compares very well with 20d, or even 5d, which costs a lot more, despite cmos vs ccd

I LOVE MY FUJIFILM S3 PRO, ONLY COSTED ME 1275 EUROS INCLUDING TAMRON SUPERZOOM!!!!! 18-200 mm!!! :D
handles like a Nikon pro body.. saturation is more then excellent etc. etc.

there is pro, and non pro.
non pros rave about how cool their cameras are. pros usually care more about quality and reliability, image quality and rentability. when other lenses, equip is needed for a certain shoot, canon and nikon are the only options available.
you would never see a tamron lens for rent at a pro equipment house. tamron anything will never see the inside of my camera bag. brand name lenses only. not to diss, its just fact.
i hear many cats rave about their cameras. really who cares.. its what you are shooting.

Cheers Carty - I've just been schooled.

I have the D70 and I swear by it. I use a Tamron 28-200 lens with it and never have to change lenses.
Buy Nikon, I recommend the D70, but if you gotta roll D50 you're still in good hands.

Fuck i shoulda read carty's posts before opening up my yap. I still love my shit, but I'm not as pro as carty.
I did sleep at a holiday inn express though.

----if i actually had the cash for pro lenses i would buy them.
the tamron lense is an award winner and brings me excellent results for the price..
but hey, i am just an amateur.
pro is all defined by budget these days.
*sigh

(Jul 12 06, 12:21)yes, RAW is best.
but RAW is only as good as the converter you use in post-production.
A lot of camera's photos are processed differently by different RAW converters..
check dpreview.com to see what converter works best with what camera...

Im going through the same thing.
So far the canon seems the obvious answer, but if i went with a d50 or 70 i have access to a bunch of equipment fisheyes / lenses / lights that would cost me thousands to buy.
hmmmmm......

Carty has been inspiring me since I saw his pics a while a go p.williams on a bmx. Then I got back like yesterday and see even better photographs and time lapse photos its a trip I admire him.
I have a D50 and I bought it thinking that if I learn lots with it I can eventually move up to a better Dslr.
Great camera but no DOF preview and no lcd backlight but if you are patient and work hard you can achieve good results with the D50, save up and get a better one.
here are some examples of my d50 work

I had a lot of fun with my EOS 20D, but will have more fun with my new EOS 5D.
Lenses are more important though. Buy some good ones!

(Jul 12 06, 15:06)Adobe Camera Raw gives you more than you usually need, comes with photoshop and upgrades (they keep adding new models support) are free.
RAW is great when you need to shoot in low light, ie at concerts. The trick is you underexpose -2 to get faster shutter speeds, then in RAW postprocess push the exposure slider up to bring the picture up from the dark. This is where canon CMOS shines, I must say.

I shoot with both Canon digital Photo and video cameras, The image quality on both is briliant! the Color saturation is excellent..... my next camera will be the canon xl-h1 ! aaaahhhhh ssseeeexxxxyyyyyy

Also, D60, canon's first 6MP camera, from 2002 or 3 afair, has still the first digic processor which gives you images that have beautiful film-like colour characteristics. then they introduced 10D with digic2, great images but machine-cold, without this unique feel. Browse thousands of images by camera at http://www.pbase.com/cameras/can…

to see the subtle difference.
D60 can be found @ebay cheap, and then when you move on to likes of the new 30D it can stay your backup gear.
Its autofocus is a slow bitch compared to todays cameras though.

We run a canon 20D It ROCKS!

i had the same debate a few months ago and decided to try them all.
I chose the Canon 350D as it was just better..hard to say why but it was just was better.
3 months later i bought a 5D to go with it ;)
- reluct0
Just buy a good lens :) A 5D with a crap lens is a crap camera.
