(Jul 12 06, 15:06)Adobe Camera Raw gives you more than you usually need, comes with photoshop and upgrades (they keep adding new models support) are free.
RAW is great when you need to shoot in low light, ie at concerts. The trick is you underexpose -2 to get faster shutter speeds, then in RAW postprocess push the exposure slider up to bring the picture up from the dark. This is where canon CMOS shines, I must say.
