this reminds me of the time that this kid from the advertising degree at my art school wanted to go to this hip, arty' london club night for his birthday. Most people on my course went each week. He was a bit of a chav.
He and his friends rolled up to the club in a limo they hired for the night wearing suits. They were promptly turned away.
Everyone else in the queue was wearing less smart clothes.
I guess advertising is different to design. I've got an interview tomorrow and I'm just going to wear what I wear to work – jeans, a tshirt etc.

so basically what you're saying baskerville is that people in advertising, and people running "hip, arty london club nights" are afflicted by a hideous form of inverse snobbery?
very true.

I think the real answer to this question lies in whether or not you are a total fucking cunt or not.

(May 31 06, 00:56)yup
An interview is not the place to dress-down. Not everything has to be casual all the time, even in design. You can call up ahead of time, find out what people wear, and then dress a bit more professionally than that. Then once the interview goes on and finishes, you will have an okay idea of how other people dress at the company and you can dress the same way if you get the job.

wear a tie and blazer badge combo, with knife edge sharp slacks and a lobster motif throughout that ought to seal the deal yo!.

Just wear jeans and a nice shirt. If you really want to polish it off put on a blazer over it but just be yourself at some level. No need for the dog and pony show. You ar their for what you do.

I don't think jeans should be worn at a job interview, even for this job. To each their own, I guess.

I think jeans are fine, I wouldn't wear anything else to an interview. But never pair them with a blazer unless you want to look like Jeremy Clarkson.

I have a couple of outfits that I wear to interviews or meetings with new clients but it ranges more into the dandy side of things than anything else. Outward appearance is part of the package in regards to what I do, it's not formal by any stretch but it is thought out right down to what sort've bag I've got my portfolio in.
I don't think I would ever tailor my appearance to fit in at a company. But that's just me and probably why I prefer doing my own thing.
