I didn't see a thread on it but, wanted to ask what everyone thinks of the protesting and boycotts that are happening around the world as the film is passing censors.
- prodigalslacker0
were there protests on the book?
either way it's lame. it's not like the book was on the nonfiction rack. people are stupid.

i believe because of the movie...i guess people feel television has a greater effect on people then books...
who knew??!!
- ldww0
what are books?
- prodigalslacker0
well then they're just dying for their 15 minutes. they'll get it as millions of people walk past them in line for the movie.

i agree in a way that there resistance maybe a bit futile, but won't stop them believing that they should be protesting. That movie is going to be released anyways, I would much rather see some empasis on the movie, but with some caution placed on the premise of it. Education from the other side that is being held responsible for the drama in the movie.

people needs to remember this is a fiction! take it as an entertainment.

you did not just say resistance is futile

The publicity will help the film if anything.

i think people realise its fiction, just cant deal with the fact that brown has chosen to blaspheme the church and religion in such a way ... like passion of the christ was an interpretation on the events of the crucifiction

forget RSS, DVC is the new PHP

it got panned at cannes. Tom Hanks is a ridiculous excuse for an actor.

As much as some might want to just say "the book is fiction, deal with it" - the book opens with the word "FACT" and blurs the line between fiction and non-fiction.
It is not simply the case of a fantasy narrative demarcated from the real world like say... Lord of The Rings is. In that case, it is not "just fiction". I would argue that the way Brown wraps his narrative in "fact" is a sneaky way of putting forward an argument he believes is true, while allowing himself to distance himself from the ideas when convinient.
People aren't stupid, they are deceived by the blurr.
