the only reason ethanol needs federal help from taxpayer subsidies is that it is too expensive to compete on its own. whether 5 billion, 6 billion, or 8 billion gallons, an ethanol mandate would mean significant cost increases for the driving public.
the american enterprise's Blake Dvorak similarly warned against ethanol as a solution for high gas prices in a Dec. 9, 2003, article, calculating the heavy cost of production and the energy wasted in developing the alternative fuel source.
to plant, grow, and harvest the corn takes about 140 gallons of fossil fuel and costs about $347 per acre, while even before the corn is converted to ethanol, the feedstock alone costs $0.69 per gallon of ethanol.
barrel of oil. $75
barrel of ethenol. $1605% to 15% ethenol put into your gas at the station... look at the pump.
now you know why your gas is so expensive.

i think the gas companies making record profits every single day is way more worrisome. i feel like us commoners are being bled dry by the oilmen in office.
notice noone in washington is screaming for better CAFE standards, oh no. Keep paying $100 to fill up your suburban.
- blaw0
i'm sure mr. raymond's retirement package isn't lowering prices at the pump.

what the hell would you do with $400 million?

i wonder what bill gates makes. or what steve jobs' package will be.
what is their net worth? it's disgusting the fact that he's getting 400 million but they netted 36 billion last year. thats .01% of the company profit.
fuck. last year my company matched my 401k 10%.
it's relative man. disgusting but relative.
if the shoe was on YOUR foot i'd bet my money you'd take it in a heartbeat and not think twice. you're just pissed you choose the wrong profession.
- M_Poprocki0
who is pissed?

The whole ethanol thing has nothing to do with lowering prices, it is a huge payout to Big Agriculture.
- mpfree0
10 years from now this will be trivial
Renewable energy sources are the way to go.
it'll happen
- garett_west0
mrdobolina... right on schedule.
the next time you ride your bike past a gas station look at the pump. it will say something like "made with 10% ethanol"
like hell it doesn't.
ethanol is almost twice as much per barrel as oil.
- mrdobolina0
what is your argument, garett?
- mpfree0
it's all about the -OH ending
Get it, chemically -OH, Ohio deciding the election, OH.
yeahh ok maybe not
:(
- garett_west0
what is your argument, garett?
mrdobolina
(Apr 24 06, 08:56)honestly, if i have to tell you you wouldn't understand.
everyone else does. you're just being difficult now.
- mrdobolina0
I said the ethanol thing has nothing to do with lowering prices, do you disagree with that?
If not, shut your fucking yapper.
- lowimpakt0
i don't really get what you are trying to say either.
and i got me degrees and shit
- garett_west0
ethanol is $160 a barrel.
oil is $74 a barrel.when you put a gallon of gas into your car it contains up to 15% of ethanol.
do the math. shut your yapper.
a hamburger costs .39 at mcdonalds.
a cheeseburger is .49if the slice of chese cost $160 for a stack of it the price of that cheeseburger would be much higher.
damn.
you're like the smartest kid with down syndrome or something.
- lowimpakt0
ha ha.
if only real economics could be as simple as getting fat at McDonalds.
