mrdobolina... right on schedule.
the next time you ride your bike past a gas station look at the pump. it will say something like "made with 10% ethanol"
like hell it doesn't.
ethanol is almost twice as much per barrel as oil.

I was reading some things a few weeks back and they said if the infrastructure was there that ethanol would be a lot cheaper to produce.
umm government investment.

what is your argument, garett?
- GreedoLives0
From wikipedia:
"Glucose for fermentation into ethanol can also be obtained from cellulose. Until recently, however, the cost of the cellulase enzymes that could hydrolyse cellulose has been prohibitive. The Canadian firm Iogen brought the first cellulose-based ethanol plant on-stream in 2004. The primary consumer thus far has been the Canadian government, which, along with the United States government (particularly the Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory), has invested millions of dollars into assisting the commercialization of cellulosic ethanol. Realization of this technology would turn a number of cellulose-containing agricultural byproducts, such as corncobs, straw, and sawdust, into renewable energy resources."So there's hope yet.

I got rid of my Toyota Landcruiser '02 for something smaller.

that's right, we do have a National Renewable Energy Laboratory. So it's not as if we haven't looked into it.
I don't think that'll be such a smooth transition though. You'd have to force car makers into it, right? But hey, I could be wrong.
Some group will be up in arms no matter what, never fails. Some environmentalist will cry about the destruction of sawdust.

//yes i'm sure the environmentalists will cry about MBTE being taken out of circulation. they love that stuff.
it's so healthy for all of us.//

the price of gasoline isn't going down ever again, I think. Maybe a quarter a gallon but you know.
The market will work it out as far as the car companies switching their shit up.

i think it's literally $100 to fill up a suburban right now. that's unsustainable for a lot of people, i'd think.
- mpfree0
of course it's fucking way healthier, shit cities like Mexico City, LA would be so much cleaner.
can you imagine?

serves them fucking right for buying a suburban. And if you have that many kids to fill up a suburban, you need a vasectomy.

most cars produced in the last couple years can run on ethanol. flex fuel engines i believe they're called.
only problem is it is near impossible to start ethanol based engines at near 20ºF temperatures.
- mrdobolina0
didnt know that, john.

Car dealerships here in Chicago are being overrun with large trucks people are trading in.
Thank God my car only has a 16.5 gallon tank. My buddies truck has two 20 gallon tanks. Ugh. No thanks.

Which one do you think gets better mileage?
