Need some feedback. I've been going in circles for the past 2 days with this thing.
The brochure concept uses 8 terms to describe each one of the 8 selected projects. Some projects may have 2 terms highlighted if applicable. [this is what all the small type at the top of the pages refer to]
It's bilingual, the black type will be in Nederlands and the red will be english..
I'm not sure if I need to add any graphic elements to help the page structure. I'd rather not, but have a feeling there are too many points of reference right now..
The client wants to mail the brochure out with another small brochure and some loose project sheets, so this is why I've made the jacket with the rubber band...
Here's the clients website so you can see what their huistijl is like now, it has to fit...

its in some language that i dont understand..
- chossy0
they are both strong well done.
- mr_snuggles0
overdesigned maybe?
- dinky0
if it doesnt have illustration of cow bells, than its not over designed
- mr_snuggles0
bobbing for apples?
- kelpie0
yup, what chossy said. very nice.
why overdesigned? looks pretty striking and clear to me...
- mr_snuggles0
mostly it's because when I see the other Doll materials, they are very chunky and somewhat playfull. These pieces lose some of the playfulness and are much more rigid...

hmmm, just looked at the site - maybe if you're worried about that you could include a few hints of the graphic objects in their site design? or maybe on or two of the alternative colours, but I think you've actually developed their style into something better tbh - I certainly wouldn't mess with it too much...

I would approach them with what you have and see where they go with it, I think you can down tools on this one :D

very very nice

for me I think it may be a little over designed. I think you need more white space and the large bold text that has it's own page is a bit too much for me.
Don't get me wrong it DOES look good just need a better balance, and a few tweeks.
AND
What kelpie said about pushing the brand in the right direction. It's such a shame that you have to design it in both Languages, do you have to do that alot?
- kelpie0
multi-lingual stuff can be a real pain in the arse - especially when you get the german/spanish/whatever through ans its 200 characters longer than the english grr grr &c
- kelpie0
agree with Dancer about the pages of large text - maybe you could introduce the lighter face a little more...

cheers Dancer.
let me mention a few more things, a big part of the huistijl is the use of large bold avant garde. contrasting type sizes is also another big part of it, which again, I'm not a big fan of.. I can't say it feels right to me, the whole identity doesn't feel right to me. But that was done by another designer at my office.
I don't think I want to bring in additional elements from the huistijl, but rather the mentality. The most I would introduce would be some keylines to help further the clarity in the page layout.
Just for interest, here's a look at the format I had been previously developing for about 1 week.

It's difficult to explain but basically the brochure was one continuous accordian-fold, printed double-sided and bound by 2 elastics. It was broken down in 2 sections 'reflective' and 'practice'. The 'reflective' section contained all the text relating to the themes/projects that were within the 'practice' section. There was a navigation and referencing system that made the piece interesting, difficult to use :) but interesting..
The quote for the brochures came in at like 17,000 euros and then they decided they needed to mail the brochure, so I've abandoned the direction, mostly because of the smaller A4 format...

I like it, just photoshop out those hot air balloons and you have a winner.
- Dancer0
Hmm toughie.
Could you have fold out pages so you fit more than 2 or 3 words to a line, then introduce a grpahic element as a visual pull to "introduce would be some keylines to help further the clarity in the page layout."
the main part of your layout is considered and puts emphasis on the content and how is is easily understood, it's just the pages of overly large type that hit me.
Could you knock the text back to a 5% tint and work on it on more of a grphic level...?
I dunno, I will have a think
- mr_snuggles0
thanks gents.
Funny you should say that mark, I was gonna do the opposite and photoshop the hot air balloons into every photo/rendering, you know, sort of a visual theme...:P
I see what your saying Dancer, I'm gonna try some things and see what happens...

updates_
I think it's getting worse, I dunno, I'm not doing anymore until I print it out and mock it up...
