that logomark is shit i think. that company just cannot get their shit together at all. not only do they design a mark that looks like a OS X Aqua item, they have an image of a woman w/ a DV cam on their homepage.

just another step towards the grave for Quark.

they must be trying to compete with indesign with the whole 'edit psd files' thing.

that comment speaks volumes about that POS company.

that's really bad form to launch another new logo 6 months after the "rebrand"...
"Well we liked it at the time, but this skinny white Canadian who kept calling us 'son' and 'dawg' really showed us that we could do better. One"

While the flat version is decent (look to the favourite icon), the larger, dimensional version is terrible at best. What makes this so bad is that it simply continues with the recent trend in the attempts to give 'depth' to a business simply by running a 3D filter over it.
Volvo, UPS, Chevron and countless others have moved in this direction, in a vain attempt to look contemporary, when they only end up looking like OS icons. Very few of these actually create a lasting image for the company, and fewer will outlast a logo life cycle.
The question we really have to ask is whether we as designers are creating identities for the short or the long term? If Quark is trying to make themselves different, and an actual player in the graphics software world, then why are they releasing a logo that is dead on arrival, and will only hurt them in the long run?

...And the site is atrocious. It's kind of appropriate though as it matches the quality of the logo. Their obsession of focusing on the "Q" as a representation of their brand is sophomoric.

yeah, the flat version is far better – all these bullshit 3d renderings are idiotic, and will be pegged in 10 years as a very brief and embarrassing phase in corporate identity design history

Viewing it at a larger size, even more problems arise. They've turned the logo from an OS icon into something that should be on the hood of a car, or a bottle of dish soap.
They really should have stuck with the flat version, and developed a stronger, and frankly more interesting logotype.
Regardless, the whole package is uninspired and lacking any real 'umph'. Nothing about Quark's new identity speaks to me, or speaks to anything beyond a thirty second attention span.

i don't understand the different usage of green at the two versions (2d/3d) ...?

"B. S., Boston Acoustics, Massachusetts: Quark tech support answered my questions and talked me down from the ledge"
great sound bite.

ugh. I dislike this mark, it alreay looks dated if you ask me.
Their supporting typeface also bugs me, having a different Q than the logo, looks inconsistant.
