actually, class size is pretty important- the most gifted teacher is going to have a hard time with more than 25 students in the class no matter what the standards are. In rich communities with public schools, parents volunteer and assist the teacher with room parents and tutoring.
Its not bootstraps that makes a good student, but time and effort.

I don't support the rich communities getting the money, but that's not the real problem here. It's motivation.
I hate the classification of kids today. When we were young, you were either gifted or with the regular kids. Today, over 40%, an alarmingly high number, are considered poor White and Black 'Special Ed' kids. I mean what the f*ck is that?@?!
'Special Ed', no it's more like terrible teachers and not knowing who or where your father is.
And if that sounds harsh or racist then f*ck it, I'm harsh and racist. But it's the d*mn truth. Don't act like you can't learn. Immigrants come into this same environment around here and they pass with flying colors. It's f*cking laziness.

I'm going to disagree with you.
I don't think it has anything to do with an area.
I went to bad, bad public schools. Elementary, Middle and part of High School.
It's the following:
- Family Life
- Teachers and Principal
- Motivation
- Community (partly along side with what you are hinting towards)Ultimately, it might be safer and you might have better, higher paid teachers in an affluent community, but it comes down to the individual student giving a f*ck.
Plus, there are drastic changes going on in urban schools these days and for the better.
Sorry, you might have a point, but I'm not selling them short man.
Granted there are special cases, but not f*cking 40%.

Another thing is, JazX remarked about the kids not knowing where their Dad's are.
Don't you think that if you realize that this is a problem, you should address that in your educational system rather than using it to scorn the victims of it?
If all that ever is said about it is "well it is their own damn fault because of this or that..." how will the problem ever improve? If anything, this sort of thing compounds it and the future looks even bleaker.
It's hard to pull yourself up by the bootstraps when you don't have any boots.
