SO.
For those of you that give a damn, I took the job here in STL. It was a super tough decision—the other offer was at a cool boutique shop with a lot of cultural/art based clients, but there would be no real room for growth; at the firm here I'll come in as a senior designer, which is nice since I've only been at this design game for about 3 years. And the money is good. Now I won't have to take out a loan when the time comes to buy my GF a ring.
Hope I made the right decision...thanks all for the advice, help & critique these past few months (no, I'm not following JazX out the door just yet :)

Dude, how you gonna get Toasted Ravs in DC? You KNOW you're gonna be jonesing! Think about the Provel, man, the PROVEL.
Seriously. Do what feels right. I live in the STL and think it's great. This city has a lot to offer, but hey DC is the buttplug of the world, and that's saying something. Ya know?

Clayton is nice. A lot of awesome restaurants. I am in Maryland Heights at the moment doing UI Design. Have you been to any of the STL Meetups? The last one was hosted by Atomic Dust.

(Mar 8 06, 10:03)Yeah I'm trying to figure out where to go for lunch, something cheap. We have a Quizno's right below us.
Dunno about the STL meetups. Is it an NT thing?

i think friends and family (and of course the girlfriend) is more important than the amount of money. the quality of work (and what work you would be doing) is probably a bigger issue.
biggest question i guess you should consider is would you regret (later in life) not taking the job in DC? or vice versa. there are always positives and negatives to every situation...but usually the one with more risks makes you regret less later but hurt more in the present : )

go for the career advancement.
(that is to say, stay in STL)a senior position looks better on your resume than a 3 man shop. Even if it is well known.

update:
I'd accepted the offer from 2e, was supposed to start on the 15th, then a couple days later Kuhlmann Leavitt offered me a job. The apology phone call to 2e was reeeeally awkward, but I think KLI is a better move.
just started yesterday. I'm nervous but really excited :D
P.S. 2e Creative is now looking for a senior designer ASAP for anyone in STL who's interested. And Catalone Design in MD needs a middle-weight.

congrats
mind the bridges you burn though

(Mar 8 06, 08:57)Yeah, that part sucks. I imagine this sort of thing happens a lot though. I tried to be as nice as possible; it would've been a decent gig but KLI is a better career move for me.

thanks for the advice guys! And now to confuse the issue further, I have an interview tomorrow with the best design firm in STL. If they offer me a job, golden. Otherwise...I think I'm leaning towards DC, better work/cooler people. Bye-bye cool loft apt., tho.
If only I could bring the GF with me :(
tho she would come out my way eventually...the meantime would SUCK, since I think she's *the one*
