thing is Clinton authorized wiretaps, about 5 a week, but they all went through the court for approval. Knowledge tends to inhibit stupid or ill conceived operations and sometimes they are illegal.

Feingold has the biggest balls in the senate.
He is one of my state's senators.
He voted against the patriot act because it was loaded with all types of earmarks and other garbage unrelated to homeland security getting pushed through. The vote went 99 for the act and 1 against, Feingold.

It's all about the bigger picture. I for one thing GW could honestly give a rats ass right now about anything he does. He only has two years left on his Presidency, what could he possibly gain from wiretaps in only two years? The bigger picture is he was laying the groundwork and a solid foundation for the next guy in power, which I fear has already been scripted for the masses. We just play along like background actors in the scene.
Bush, Kerry, who cares. With either one of them we'd be in the exact same position right now.
The bigger picture is Bush really wasn't the brainchild of the wiretaps. I doubt he was sitting at home one night and the lightbulb went off above his head. This goes way beyond him which is why even if Kerry was in right now we'd all be m*ther f*cking Kerry's name too.
Is it really to fight terrorism or is it to gain political advantage and fodder for your own parties political gains both here and abroad?

This level of lack of oversight and corruption in our current government is unprecedented.
Saying Kerry would do the same thing:
a. is bullshit and cannot be proven and what is this based on.
b. gives Bush a free pass to do whatever he wants because "everyone would have done it".
Even if you think that Bush is a great president and a great republican (not you, kona), he will not be president forever and the pendulum will swing and then republicans will be bitching about this level of power in the white house being wielded by a democrat.
