does anyone know who designed the old logo? of course it is hard to dismiss these classically designed logos done by designers like saul bass etc... but to say that the old kodak logo was not out of date is just ignorant. the old was big, clunky and would not work well small and on high tech devices. imagine a sleek chrom digital camera with an orange and yellow square on it? blech. I am not crazy about the new one either but i agree it is more modern, though their attempt at hanging on to color scheme does make it seem food related. also the roundedness of the d and a contrasts too much with the sharp corners of the k's
Why do companies think it is a good idea to hang on to a piece of their old logo? if they are changing it, they should change completely.

I like the old one too for nostalgic reasons but they improved the typography in my opinion. The 'D' is improved. They could do without the lines.

The "A" is improved too.

i think it's weak
that looks like some kinda novelty font or something
it's too loose and doesn't say anything to me

allen hori’s comment is:thanks for posting the launch - looking forward to the new kodak wordmark being ripped apart as per usual in the public forum.
keep in mind this is a soft launch and over the next year different pieces of the new identity will emerge as the company rolls out new product lines.
btw, the yellow bars are not part of the wordmark 'proper'. who's reading the guidelines anyway?

following trends and throwing tradition out the window just because something isn't new is ignorant.

"Why do companies think it is a good idea to hang on to a piece of their old logo? if they are changing it, they should change completely."
yeeblazerWhy? It's called Brand Equity. If you've got it (and it's not negative) you're generally an idiot to get rid of it entirely.
Kodak has a strong following and consumer recognition factor. The new logo diminishes that. If it was equally as strong as the old one, then there would be an argument for it, but as it is, it seems weak and not memorable.

BTW. It's not like I haven't designed weak logos in my time either.
