most chicks i know dig a man in a suit, so there might be a bright side to this!

We don't really sell to big business," Suns guard Raja Bell said. "We sell to kids and people who are into the NBA hip-hop world. They may be marketing to the wrong people with this."
what a fukin wanker. NBA has nothing to do with hip-hop!

well i think you're being oversensitive for saying it's racially driven.
fuck. it's a business. plain and simple. they get paid to perform. they represent multimillion dollar companies. dress appropriately for fucks sake.
- Low_fi0
actually Dresscoades arnt specific to the NBA.
Usally its teams that impose dresscodes however. the NHL is similar.

also, saying they don't sell to big business is a giant load of crap...that's who sponsores their million-dollar deals. their fans are certainly not the ones who pay their paychecks.

these fools are already way overpaid, most of em should stop dressing like hoodlums and show some class, because we all know they have class deeeeep down there somewhere....;p

It makes no sense. They're not "working" in their suits, so why even bother to wear them? It's like telling a McDonald's employee to wear a suit to show up to work before they change into their swank uni's. What a waste of time.
No one would even know what they wore if the camera whores weren't filming them entering the arena. Seeing a seven feet man walking through a giant concrete carousel - what entertainment. Whatever.

granted, i maybe slightly skewed in my opinion, but it seems like its a bunch of white people crying about a black guys's outfit.
it's a sporting event! not a judicial hearing....
no one likes the john stockton dress but wont embrace something different.
do i think some of the shit is over-the-top and looks ridiculous? yea, but i'm not that guy. i know other people look at designers like that too. everyone has a right to dress appropriately for their industry - and I think the NBA's industry is entertainment - could you imagine putting a dress code on movie stars...

I don't understand why this rule needs to be enacted.

oh WhatEver! you underestimate the importance of dressing well.
You think no one sees those players before they go to court? Everyone sees them and if you are a fan you waint for the buss to arrive at the stadium before the ball game to see your fav player.
Also you think that the desing industry doesnt care how you dress, but it depends on what level you are and what company you work for. Some companies are really strict on their dress code even for the designer level.

Nothing wrong with it.
That's how it is in England with football

hs you're showing your nitwit side

And who cares if they're seen before getting on the court? If I see a homless guy on the street, it doesn't mean I'm going to start dressing like him. If an NBA player is your role model, you need to get your priorities in check.
The NBA markets itself by selling individuality through its star players - be it Allen Iverson or Yao Ming. Yet while the NBA cashes in on jerseys and merchandise, they're telling the players to scrap that individuality in favor of becoming another suit. What next? Chevrolet sponsors the NBA and all players have to roll up in an Impala?

the more I read these replies, the more I am getting pissed about this dress code thing. It's ridiculous. I grew up watching sports and never once did I rock a jersey anywhere except my own in high school on game day. If kids don't dress like and NBA player, they're gonna put bandanas on their head like Rapper-X or wear eyeliner like Rocker-Z, you know.

you guys are idiots. the dress code is meant to counteract the nba's bad press. most nba players spend their time knocking up strippers and getting into fights. they're overpaid thuggish babies. boohoo, so they have to dress up in a suit. they're getting paid 20 million bucks a year. so what if allen iverson has to dress up? maybe it'll change his borish behavior.
- -sputnik-0
again, they're not dressing in suits. they just have to look a bit more professional. they can wear whatever they want when they're not representing their EMPLOYER...the NHL does it and it has nothing to do with race.

-----What the heck are you talking about? how can you compare a homeless with an NBA player??? and FYI NBA players are role models for a lot of kids, if you are all grown up and you dont dress up like them then heck yeah, it doesnt apply to you, but they are doing it for the public in general.
Man! I cant believe people are so hard into dressing nice? Its not like the end of the world for the guys to dress nice before or after the game.
- -sputnik-0
right on, fusion
- mrdobolina0
this is a stupid fucking rule.
I would like to see the NBA show some examples of what style of dress caused this decision to be made.
- jevad0
pretty much what uber said
