Yet another non-design thread by me, but I don't think it's racially driven. I also don't think it's necessary. These guys are athletes, not conference room dwellers. Being on the bench in a suit is ridiculous. That's like posting up in the key in a tux.

business casual does not mean a suit

agreed.
but i think back to jordan... that dude was class. always in suits for a press conference. makes the game look good. and after the brawl last year the nba needs a bit of a face lift.

business casual i think means mullets.
business in the front, casual/party in the back.

kentucky waterfall all they way, kiddo

they are just trying to make sure the players portrait a good image about the sport.
I agree with you that they should wear whatever they want but in reallity they are not imposing dress code for their lives, its just dresscode for work. althought it seems like the only thing they do is have fun, they are still working and like everyone else if the boss says you have to have a certail dress code you have to do it.
Besides it helps the kids that look up to the players to learn from the way the dress too. Nothing wrong with dressing nice if you can.

good point sputnik. I think I'm just saying that these guys play ball. That's why they run around in XXXL shorts and jerseys all the time. I remember when I played college football, we had to wear a tie and slacks on our trips; probably the most uncomfortable thing ever to be 275 lbs. on planes and busses travelling with a football team in late summer/early fall.
It's just funny to me because here I am in corporate America and my dress code is whatever I throw on. But then again, there aren't 10 million people watching me on TV...

they have to wear sports coats on the bench, so it is basically telling them to wear suits.

i don't think any wrong can come of this...NBA players' image can only improve with a little professionalism.

ok no ofense but they pay those doods enuff they can be uncomfy on a few plane rides :P haha!!

I agree with the point one guy said about who they're marketing to. The only people buying into their image are kids.
With that said, what do you want to see emulated? A respectable, well dressed man, or someone all blinged out making kids want money for the wrong reasons?

the dresscode is shit and racially driven.
one step closer to less baggy clothes and haircut restrictions.

I think the dress code is way past due, but David Stern's (NBA Commissioner) attitude is way out of line.

(Oct 18 05, 14:08)no it's not. look at all the things they want to change. look at the demographic of the NBA who wears those things.
- uberdesigner0
it's going to be a parade of purple and yellow futuristic suits
- todelete__20
now you're being racist hello-sexy.
- -sputnik-0
hey, everyone's entitled to their opinion

christ, kOna, if someone said that afros are against the nba dress code, you think they're targeting white folks?
youre being oversensitive.

Suits are the worst. The lead garb you have to sport for x-rays at the dentist is less annoying. I hope every suit in this world burns and George Zimmer's tears put the fire out.
