they are just trying to make sure the players portrait a good image about the sport.
I agree with you that they should wear whatever they want but in reallity they are not imposing dress code for their lives, its just dresscode for work. althought it seems like the only thing they do is have fun, they are still working and like everyone else if the boss says you have to have a certail dress code you have to do it.
Besides it helps the kids that look up to the players to learn from the way the dress too. Nothing wrong with dressing nice if you can.
