Hello guys,
I need to choose between 3 monitors:
LaCie Photon20Vision II - 20"
1600x1200 @ 75HzApple Cinema 20"
1680 x 1050EIZO 21" FlexScan S2110W
1680 × 1050Which brand do you think is better for monitors - LaCie, Eizo or Apple?
Please feel free to give me any other suggestions.
Im looking to spend about a $1000. However, if there's something that costs $500 more and REALLY worth is, i may go for it.
But i don't want to spend extra money just for something that i would not even feel.
Thank you!

That EIZO looks like it has really good specs...
Can't find a good review for it though, they're all a pants!
If I was looking for one (I wish) I would look at the following specs (and get the best one)
1. Brightness / Contrast Ratios
2. Response Time
3. Native Resolution
4. How many colours it can displayEIZO has it on specs out of all of them, but don't know about quality and feel etc...

You can get two high-quality 21" CRT's for the same price and you won't have to worry about dead pixels, calibration, viewing angle changing colours, uneven backlighting, fixed colour temp...
just a heads up... LCD still can't compete. (maybe next year?)

i got this wedessday, i fell in love instantly

we just "upgraded" at my work to the Apple Cinema 20" and i have to honestly say they suck... I know CRT's are dead technology cuz they pollute and no one will be making them anymore... bla... bla... but The Apple 20" doesn't come near the clarity or color accuracy of my previous LA Cie electron 22... The apple 20" displays some weird noise and discoloration across a neutral grey gradient it's trippy... that being said go for the Eizo...

my design school just got apple 20''s. CRT is beutiful but i must say i like the design apple threw down as always. its sleek, light and it adjusts.

At my work I just got a some new NEC 2080 and really like these,
IF I could choose i would go for the La Cie.

I have just got a 20inch apple one on my dell box... and am really pleased with it... I have a dual nvidia fx 1000 graphics card on it... so that may be why the picture quality is so ace.

(Oct 7 05, 21:07)this is absolutely dead wrong information. LCDs can easily compete, and in fact ANY color specialist or digital workflow house will tell you exactly the opposite.
LCDs have much truer color accuracy, noise reduction, and striation characteristics than 99% of all CRTs out there for their entire lifespan. Yes, CRTs will be dead-on accurate.... for 10-12 months.after this there is not a CRT on the market that will even be remotely close. they may appear to be so, but the proof is out there- they do not measure anywhere close to LCDs after this time.
if you are in it only for a 12 month period, CRTs are fine. if you don't want to continue purchasing monitors though, an LCD is the way to go.

sorry to drag on like this arseni, but this is something that is very important to me.
i would seriously investigate who makes the Eizo monitors, if they do not make them themselves. there are many good deals out there in contenporary designed wrappers that have generic, cheap guts to them.
The Apple monitors (especially the new ones) are phenominal and display just about the *truest* color out there. The LaCie's arrre very good as well. They have some issues w/ their noise reduction if i remember correctly, but overall are well made and last.
Another to consider are the wide-format Dell monitors suprisingly. They are the exact same internals as the Apple's save the glass and other hardward configurations.

$935 for a Dell 24" LCD. Read the reviews if you are unsure. You just can't beat the quality and certainly can't beat the price.
I've got one and it's amazing.http://ecomm.dell.com/dellstore/…

here's another amazing deal:
Dual Core P4 (2.8), 512mb, 160 gigs
WITH A 24" LCD for $1200!!
I almost get one everytime I se a deal like this. I paid $1200 for my 24" by itself (it had just come out). It's a steal at $1200, but with a computer too...nice.

la cie is best for color.

I meant can't compete on a price/performance level.
High quality LCD's like the Eizo CG series (for instance)
http://www.layersmagazine.com/re…
are very capable, but you'll pay through the nose for them. You could buy a new Viewsonic G series CRT
http://www.viewsonic.com/product…
every year and still save some money over the top end LCD when it pooches out (~4/5 years).IMO, they're just not there yet.

but who wants to do that? i dont want a big ugly box..

That's not what I am physically seeing in a real world environment though... Our company purchased the Apple 20" displays in conjunction with KPG's Virtual Matchprint Proofing System... Once you get over the "Gee That's Neat" factor you still see that there are some weird things LCD's do... Throw up an 18%grey swatch across the display and you'll see a rainbow of patchiness there's also a strange noise pattern that is specific to each display it looks like sand but it never moves... To simple tests an 18% grey value across the screen and then try a black to white gradient and check the lcd's banding... If LCD"s were near perfect Eizo woeuldn't have a market for this bad boy:

I just can't honestly recommend Apple's 20" display at this point even though it's billeed as being "SWOP" certified as if that actually means anything when something's on a press.

Guys,
Thank you so much! You really made me think. Now Im actually considering getting a new CRT instead of LCD. I don't mind big boxes at all. I probably will think a bit more about it.
How come some people say Apple's are beautiful and others say they're crap??
- uberdesigner0
go with the LaCie, the other two are practically junk

EIZO ColorEdge CG210 (1600x1200)
After 10 hours working daily you will not having problems with your eyes(Very important). The impression that you have is not seaten front of the monitor. I have try many monitors since 1993. This is the best i think for Graphic Design. Visit eizo.com for details.I also want one for home but is very expencive about 2.500 Euros here in Greece.

i have a Apple Cinema 20" on my desk since yesterday.
it's awesome. i had a 19" lacie blue, nothing wrong with that, but the widescreen is handy to give all your palettes a place.
clear, bright (you have to bring it down 1/2, otherwise you get welding eyes), and is still steady when i put on the fan next to the screen.
for now: 9 out of 10.
