"LCDs have much truer color accuracy, noise reduction, and striation characteristics than 99% of all CRTs out there for their entire lifespan. Yes, CRTs will be dead-on accurate.... for 10-12 months.after this there is not a CRT on the market that will even be remotely close. they may appear to be so, but the proof is out there- they do not measure anywhere close to LCDs after this time. "

That's not what I am physically seeing in a real world environment though... Our company purchased the Apple 20" displays in conjunction with KPG's Virtual Matchprint Proofing System... Once you get over the "Gee That's Neat" factor you still see that there are some weird things LCD's do... Throw up an 18%grey swatch across the display and you'll see a rainbow of patchiness there's also a strange noise pattern that is specific to each display it looks like sand but it never moves... To simple tests an 18% grey value across the screen and then try a black to white gradient and check the lcd's banding... If LCD"s were near perfect Eizo woeuldn't have a market for this bad boy:

I just can't honestly recommend Apple's 20" display at this point even though it's billeed as being "SWOP" certified as if that actually means anything when something's on a press.
