btw - I've been on my back since Monday afternoon watching tv, and I can say that ALL The mSm news is reporting the 'our tsunami' bullshit.
Today I heard that the coast 'looked like hiroshima' on NPR. Now, these are only reported comments - but it would help if the media, after airing them, pointed our that hundreds or even thousands of lives lost is not comperable to 100,000s in the tsunami or, for God's sake, a nuclear attack.
As for the liberal CNN comment, whoever said that is, without a doubt, a crack-smoker.

do you think that most of the media leans to the left (as far as personal views)? (polls of media answer a clear yes on this)
do you think this could possibly affect how they report?
do you believe everything you hear from cnn?
do you think any reporters might have an agenda?
there is no unbiased media.
i'm smoking crack?

indeed. I tend to get news from several different sources, and not all of them are "news" sources."official" sites are usually a good way to more information. For example, if you want to know what the Red Cross is doing for Katrina victims...the Red Cross site is probably a good place to go for information.

Yes whats happened in the US is tragic, but at least most have somewhere to go, and there is an infrastructure to cope with it, to start again.

You know, the hyperbole of the media is just inane. This is not our "tsunami".
The tsunami arrived without warning, took tens of thousands of lives and caused widespread devastation.
Katrina arrived with ample warning, was covered live as it happened by every news outlet in the country, killed a few hundred (tragically) and DID cause massive amounts of property and material devastation. It's bad. It's real bad. It's not our "tsunami". It's our Hurricane Katrina. Bad, but not AS bad as the tsunami.
Which should be bad enough. Why compare to other disasters? What's the point? Especially disimilar ones?
And why the victimology of "weep, weep, no one will help the United States..." I mean, come on - who is rich enough or has our resources to help us with a disaster of this scale? France? Russia? haha. nobody. Nobody has the excess capital or the means to bring in material comfort in a timely fashion - and certainly not as fast as we could provide it ourselves.
the question that the media should be asking - "Gee, with all the US National Guard units over in Iraq, Doesn't this make dealing with disasters like this much harder?"
Nah - it's "oh poor US suffering it's Tsunami. No one will halp us. Boo hoo."
As an American I am disgusted that once again our media lets us down.

please show polls. I think good journalists don't lean in their stories, they report. It's the mSm that tends to spin. As far as individual leanings, sure, people lean one way or another - doesn't mean they report that way. Also, much of this has more to do with news directors than reporters, imo.
do you think this could possibly affect how they report?
when they spin stories, sure. any kind of spin is deception at it's base.
do you believe everything you hear from cnn?
nope.
do you think any reporters might have an agenda?
if they do, then they're not reporting. there is line betwixt editorial and news. real journalists have no political agenda [see NewsHour].
there is no unbiased media.
I disagree.
i'm smoking crack?
you tell me. sounds to me like you're solution is to abandon the journalistic high ground and to chalk everything up the left or right spin machines.

"I can only imagine that this is what Hiroshima looked like 60 years ago," said the state's governor, Haley Barbour, after viewing the destruction from the air.

beforethis president, there was no such term as "liberal mainstream media".
so basically, if you disagree with ANYTHING this administration does or says, you are liberal. That is a bit fucked up, dont you think?

Look - there is no "left" and there is no "right".
Left and Right are silly concepts based on who sat where in France after the Revolution - and that didn't end well.
There are people who believe in progress and the Enlightenment and the Great Western Experiment that started a few hundred years back, and then there are the reactionary, fuedalistic forces aligned against it - that come from both the "Left" and the "Right".
The KKK is anti-Enlightenment, as well as Marx, Hitler, the staff of most college Social Science departments in the last decade who make their students put quotation marks and sneer whenever they use the words "progress" and "scientific basis".
In a perfect world, the media wuold truly be a fourth estate with the Enlightenment goal of seeking tramsparency in the process of politics, government and culture. The media are just corporate shills to the highest bidder - at least at the macro level.

If the US can afford to spend billions to invading other countries, then they should have enough to fix there own shit! If they don't then it's tough shit. It's a lesson to be learn here. Mind you own fucking business!
The US is considered to be the strongest nation in the world, so why should we lesser nations help them!

I don't really have any more time to discuss this... however, here is plenty of info the the presence or lack of presence of a media bias...
- piperboytoy0
all news and media have there own agenda whether it's political, or social. There is no such thing as non bias reporting, unless you get robots to report the news!
