here you go. that is a lot of rockets seeing as how they've all been launched (from this database) from 2001-2005. wow. quite a few.

how do you think all those nifty satellites get up there? do you honestly think nasa just sends up an empty ship each time? it always carries a payload from corporations that pay them to orbit their satellite(s)
kOna
(Jul 28 05, 09:34)absolutely. What about the concept of Remote Sensing as well? Do you think we just go up there for shit's and giggles? We go up in an attempt to learn something useful.

ok i'm a moronic ignoramous. we've got that settled.
so do we get paid to repair other countries satellites or do we just fix our own.
i read a grisham book one time where these kids hijacked a satellite. it wasn't a very good book.

from that Guardian article:
"And so, for the next seven years, on and off, Gary sat in his girlfriend's aunt's house, a joint in the ashtray and a can of Foster's next to the mouse pad, and he snooped. From time to time, some Nasa scientist sitting at his desk somewhere would see his cursor move for no apparent reason. On those occasions, Gary's connection would be abruptly cut. This would never fail to freak out the then-stoned Gary."
My. Fucking. Hero.

jakeyj, nasa gets paid to send them up and fix them if needed. i don't think they need to ever bring them home. they just let them come back into the atmosphere and burn up on entry.

Many of companies(Nortel, Gilat) use the Chinese space program now for satelite deployment, it's cheaper, they have more launches etc.
- ********0
true mimio. plus they have an optimum location. they are closer to the equator - thus less distance to space, less fuel needed and less power for liftoff.
that is why nasa is in florida btw.
little 'in case you didn't know' trivia thrown in there.
- Mimio0
Yeah, plus they're even more out-of-their-minds than us(U.S).
- Nairn0
..and why ESA's based in Brazil and India are trying to get in on the act too.
thanks for that Java link, kOna - that's bloody fascinating..

Mimio
(Jul 28 05, 09:55)true, but we set the wheels going. of course the Chinese undercut us, that's their business nature
you're right kOna about closer to the Equator thing

Here's the BBC News ripping on them in 1998. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/t…
NASA could give a sh*t

kOna, you know alot about space. hey maybe you and that dude from 'nsync could hang out. wasn't he going to be an astronaut. remember when homer was an astronaut? that was an awesome episode.

Hubble Illuminates Universe's Rate of Expansion
Hubble scientists found a value for how fast the universe is expanding after eight years of painstaking measurement. The rate of expansion, called the Hubble Constant, is essential to determining the age and size of the universe. Measuring Hubble's constant was one of the three major goals for the telescope when it was launched in 1990.

New Technology to Help Planes Land More Safely in Bad Weather
NASA and industry partners have developed new technology to allow planes to land safely in bad weather on parallel runways spaced as closely as 2,500 feet apart. Airports where this new approach, which expands on existing communication and navigation technology, could improve on- time arrivals are Detroit, Seattle, Minneapolis and Memphis.

shall I keep going and going and going..?

darth, while I agree with most of your views. I still think space exploration is fucking cool and worth it.
