Does this whole nasa space launch annoy anyone else?
I mean they have all these old ships, something goes wrong and astronauts get incinerated in the atmosphere. Now they are all in a rush after being on the ground for so long to launch this shuttle.
Even tho they are having all these probs they are still going to go ahead. First some window cover falls off, and then a fuel guage wasnt working and still isnt.
Im no rocket scientist but I would imagine that there are far more complicated things in the ship that they need, far more technologically advanced than a fuel guage, and when they can't get that working, thats messed.
According to the news:
"CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -
NASA plans to launch the first space shuttle flight in 2 1/2 years, even if it is plagued by the same fuel gauge problem that halted the previous countdown two weeks ago, officials said Sunday."

recipie for disaster

dood they have to do somthing!, ..they cant have everyone focussing on the war & such for too long ;)

.... um ,i'm fairly certain that a fuel guage is essential for a safe and successful flight.

whens the new launch?

its crazy that they are not replacing the current fleet until 2012 or something like that. By then, mold will be growing on them and they will be like delicate china.
I bet we see another disaster in the future... NASA is gonna slip up again... they always do.

Yeah I agree. I just cant believe after the last disaster no ones questioning this.
I was watching Daily Planet on discovery channel and they were talking about how fragile the tiles are and stuff. I just don't know how you can stretch that on till 2012.
Heres more info about the launch:

Discovery is set to lift off Tuesday at 10:39 a.m., the same time Columbia took off on its doomed mission in 2003.
What a Jynx.
I wouldn't be getting on that ship if i was an astronaut.

man, why cant we just go back to the moon...
if NASA hadn't lost the design plans for the Saturn IV rocket, then we would probably be their, living on it right now...
But then again, I guess we will need a driving message from a president to get it in motion.
if not that, then competition from another country

and a 3 meter thick solid steel layer around the rocket, so the people dont die from radiation when going out into space

The future of space exploration will be funded by corporations. The US government can't afford to fund all its military activity AND the exploration of space... So just like every other government responsibility, it will be privatised. Then we can make all the big companies even richer when we by the ‘must have’ apartment in Niketown on the moon, or that five bedroom iPenthouse on Titan.

i'm really intrigued about these extensive machines and i hope everything goes round tomorrow.

"We think that would have been really bad, so it's not acceptable,"
Somebody get this man a 6-pack and a .22!

the space shuttle was a bad design for its time and it was designed in the 60s.
it doesnt work too well. why they had to re-launch it was weird pride like "we cant let those who died down" nstead of "death won, we got a bad design on our hands"

I guess next time they'll put the orbiter on top of the fuel tank where it can't get hit by debris, and ditch the solid fuel boosters which cant be switched off... or make a true fly-to-orbit two stage winged vehicle... just like the original plans from the 60's...

i blame terrorist unicorns for demolishing the tank this time..i thought i really saw one at lift off.

I'm amazed how astronauts have the guts to go into those machines knowing they are build with parts purchased from the lowest bidder.

"I felt about as good as anybody would, sitting in a capsule on top of a rocket that were both built by the lowest bidder."

It's the nature of the game, the astronauts know full well what they are getting into. They can quit if they want, obviously they don't.
Why assume that they actually care?
It's all in the name of science.
