Discipler, there's a whole science/discouse devoted to that very exploration it's called "philosophy", not faith or religion.

Funny Hym, I just finished reading what neurologists concluded about the mind being seperate from the brain and how this supports the supernatural.
And anyone read "Beyond Death" by Dr. J.P. Moreland? Or "Consciousness and the Mind of God" by Charles Taliaferro?

mimio, just see my theory on disciplers logic. says it all really. you can't argue with him.

because if happiness was the object we'd just take drugs constantly and be done with it.

sunny afternoon and all - g&t para? or a pimms perhaps hmmm?

Mimio, the reactions of animals to a degree that is sometimes similar to humans does not suggest that everything can be explained by brain chemistry. Our free will and ability to believe and decide and maintain a first person perspective challenges that notion. And I could site numerous neurologists who have concluded through their studies, that consciousness/the mind is seperate from the brain. And there are philosophers like J.P. Moreland who have shown this as well.

mmm...
pimms...

anon, my logic is perfectly sound. You just don't like my viewpoint. :)
- anon0
omg, did you just refer to jp moreland? the dude is a hardcore christian. do you except an hardcore christian philosopher say otherwise? exactly.
- anon0
no discipler, only in your own beliefs you are allowed to have no scientific proof at all. other beliefs need proof. that's your logic discipler. hypocrite. but that i already figured out about you a long time ago.

The Bible is kidding you. Religion is a delusion-based system of control to keep order between governments and their people. Of course, this shouldn't really be news to anyone with a brain. But I thought I'd throw this out here anyway.

disciiiiipleeeeer
i've been respectful, i'm not a troll or nuffink honest. Your point that "The brain cannot be stimulated to produce metaphysical realities like, love, the experience of color, deep emotional pain, etc..."
my experiences says otherwise - what experience/evidence did you draw your conclusion from?
- discipler0
paraselene, a mind altering drug cannot generate the volition of the will or create the conscious ability to believe in something, nor the reality of the first-person perspective, nor self-sacrificing love. Again, if all is physically tied to the brain, there can only be third-person perspectives. But experience demonstrates otherwise. It would be more accurate to suggest that the brain is the physical mechanism or filter which puts the mind in action, so to speak.

he's right, you dont need to prove your viewpoint, but everyone else needs to prove theirs.
believe what you want to believe, but you cant prove it, so dont get pissed or feel bad if people aint buying what you're selling.

I think dualism(mind and brain separation) is pretty much over as a theory or explaination of neuropsychiatry. Anyone can site a contrasting theory, there's tons of them out there and no hard evidence supporting any of the ideas.

Yes, anon... he's also a PHD and considered an expert in his field by both Christians and non-Christians. And he's just one example of many PHD's who believe that there is more than just the physical realm. And science supports the Bible, not the opposite.

well, sweetie, we didn't want to say nuffink, but god's actually gone and let the gabloody royal mail convince him that he doesn't live in w8, so he's crashing in your office for a bit. i mean, if you were the ultimate higher power, wouldn't you want to kip at the beeb? given the choice?
boules is exactly like marbles for old people. their eyes have gone a bit off so they have to use really big balls, innit.
