No Kona,
We see the influence it has on the world, and in our lives, and our government and we see the need to apply the same scrutiny to it as any other idea. I think religious views normally go unchecked, society sort of accepts their bias nature.

uberdesigner, no it hasn't. Show me the science and how this has been "proven". Go back up to my first post in this thread and read about what true prayer is and the variables in these kinds of "studies".
Kona, I hear you. I think it's because, in Christ, you have more than just a philosopher. You have someone who claimed to be God in the flesh and who required a changed of heart in people. A change that denies self. You have someone who made absolute claims about who he was and how salvation was found in no other. Absolute claims like this are not popular in our pluralistic culture. People do not like the "light" that Christ shines on their "dark hearts" - as the Bible puts it. Whereas, the dead prophets of world religions don't require a relationship by faith. No, they are more about mystical life principles that don't expose people's sin. So, they are fun to chat about without fear of intollerance from others.

in the far off future religion will be extinct and we will live in harmony like they do in star trek. then together humanity will hold hands and stomp the shit out of space aliens.
- discipler0
Discipler, Most of the first century Christians were Gnostics, the disciple Paul was, he basically created Christianity.

-----------------------------Mimio, you're re-writing history. That's so completely false, that my head is spinning. Go and read the books of Colossians and Galatians in the N.T. - written by Paul. The entire thrust of these books was to combat the Gnostic heresy! No, Gnosticism was clearly distinguished from true Christianity by early believers and was rightly condemned as heresy.

Mimio, religious views normally go unchecked? you ever read the 10 commandments? if the world followed them you can not honestly say the world wouldn't be a better place. i mean, no one who has a half of a brain can say that.
i'm not going to get into this mud slinging arguement that has been going on since newstoday gave birth because none of you have changed your ideas or opinions, it's all become stale.
the only other thing i will say is some things with the church, like most everything in humanity needs to change with the times. the average joe (like myself) who sleeps with his girlfriend before we're married and who has slept with a married woman you would never in a million years have anythign to worry about, and if we met we'd get along just fine. it's the guys who take things (and this applies to ALL religions) way to serious and literal that you have to worry about. so will all of you stop generalizing and drink a nice cool glass of shut up juice for the love of all that is good and holy?
ok. if that didn't make sense it was because i was on the phone, typing too long and lost my train of thought like 6 times. haha.

kOna that's really offensive
Deep down in me there is no possibility of any god fitting a human definition, I am an animal and when i die i am gone. I simply can't considder anything else in my life just like other people wouldn't be able to accept the reverse.
I live in the reality where i am now, I won't refuse there may be others but i won't ever experience them.
