(Jun 29 05, 13:19)Totally. Interesting you should say that, and I agree wholeheartedly, but of course, I'm a DUMM American. Even though, I wrote a paper on this circa 1993 as an undergraduate. Middle East has been fighting over water reserves for a while.
Another thing, if the US were so determined in going after oil, there are plenty of reserves off the face of Africa, by force, we could take them in a week. Nigeria is part of OPEC.

I say bullshit. The US has been involved in oil dictatorships and terrorism for decades in the Middle East. This was/is strategic economics with the goal of attaching the dollar closer to trade values for oil.

Nigeria might not be the greatest example, but they have had much political turmoil in the recent past and you could easily put a spin on that. There are plenty of other rogue nation states that have large reserves of oil and resources that have been in civil war or have dictatorships. In Africa, South America, elsewhere.
