I prefer that my country NOT kill innocents over these stupid geopolitical philosphies that justify anything for self-interest, anything for resources.

Um so what part of history class did you not understand? That's what humans do. We kill each other over stupid geopolitical things. And when we're not doing that we're killing each other over who has the bigger god. And if we're not doing that we're killing over the prettiest chick in the room...
Oh, and when we're not doing all of that we can be damn sociable and fairly good cooks...

(Jun 29 05, 14:00)you made me look at your profile to see where you were from, cause from that statement i thought for sure you were from the middle east where they have been killing each other over who's dick is smaller and who's god can beat up who's god for like oh, a couple thousand years now.
you were talking about the middle east right?!?

But, theoretically, you could spin it. People know about the atrocities that happened. All you'd have to do is open that can of worms for the public eye.

Yeah, I know. I wish WE could do something for humanitarian reasons for one time other than maybe WW 2 and that wee bit in Kosova...but, the US public won't support a war with casualties that has nothing in it for them, and I hate to say it, I really, really do - africa ain't got much that the average american would consider worthwhile. I mean oil = the gas in their cars is a simple equation that hits people hwere they live....Africa is tough...even IF you got the momentum..I mean look at some of the anti-war rhetoric about Iraq at the moment - "Those muslims don't even appreciate our help. Screw em, bring the boys home..." That'd ne coming hundred times as thick from a bloody African campaign...

Ryan,
Again you're mistaken. Clinton's Prime IR levels were nearly the same as both Reagan and Bush had left them. In fact Greenspan increased interest rates the last two years of Clinton's 2nd term slightly.

+ you ain't gonna' get many African-Americans wanting to blow some other black dudes head off. And there are plenty of AA's in the military. I'd be a major motivational fiasco.

Clinton clinton clinton.
has everyone forgot about the missles he launched? have you? i seem to remember him blowing up some fairly large shit but none of you ever bitch about that.

Look - I am a peacful guy, but I am a student of history and especially war. We humans love it. We're quite good at it. It sucks. That being said I really firmly believe that the more you prepare for war the less you fight it.
And America had a pretty good balance with it...volunteer army, and so forth...America has fielded some of the best armies in the history of the world inthe last 50 years - and a few shitty ones as well...
That said, it's always those who aren't prepared for war, or haven't experienced it that cause it and create the most turbulent bloody messes of it.
Think about whose calling for the war in iraq now - chickenhawks the lot of them - all "I had other priorities that last time there was shooting going on"...all the real warriors are far more cautious and humane in their assessment and execution of war.
Violence in the hands of someone who is unaware of all the ways it can go arwy is a dangerous thing..and that's what we got in the Bushies/neocons...

Clinton had the sense to do it within the UN system. He wasn't a fucking cowboy and he didn't try to occupy another nation.

(Jun 29 05, 14:13)I remember something about missiles hitting an innocent pharmaceutical factory in The 'butt-poor' Sudan.
Hey, but I guess every US President is entitled to a little media distraction (*cough Monica Lewinsky), I mean, carefree destruction...

You know, most cowboys are actually cool headed characters who do make moral and ethical decisions. They're tough, stoic, practical, salt of the earth types..
It's the outlaws that are the bad 'uns.
thnik about it.
Shane...shane!!!

clinton launched a few missiles, bush deployed 160,000 soldiers. there is a slight difference, innit?

Cliton get's it coming and going. One minute he was weak on terrorism, the next minute he was bomb crazy in the Serbo/Bosnian conflict and launching missles into tents and aspirin factorie in El Shifa.
