astoria is another option for me. i was thinking it'd be easier to have a car there, but perhaps not.
but it would be quiet, it's cheap(er), still an easy commute though.

- anzelina0

you can have a car in astoria, just remember alternite side parking rules in efffect, meaaning move your car to the other side of the street, i went thru a broker in astoria and the fee was only 1 month, and we gave fisrt and last, which is better than a manhattan or brooklyn broker who can charge 7% of your annual rent...thats a scary number!!! in astoria there is a supermarket like every 2 blocks, but we use
http://www.freshdirect.commy area is very safe, and we live 1 block away from the subway, and 3 stops out of the city, myu commute (train travel time only) is 15 minutes to empire state building. i have lived in astoria for the last 3 years, but i miss manhattan big time!!! as you can not compare cities at all!!
if you are interested in the broker's name i used i can get it for you. the broker that got me my place lives on my block so i saee her all the time so she would get you a good spot as she knows me well.
:)

thanks for the details e-pill.
i'm not going to start looking until at the earliest august. [maybe not until december] but i will ask you then for the broker's info.
seriously, thanks for the help!
- Tara0
actually most brokers charge 12-15%
anzelina you should check out the neighborhoods and see for yourself. as you see everyone has their own thing that they like about their hood.
- anzelina0
yeah i've been in / checked out the neighborhoods but i don't really know what the rent is for different places, and what they are like other times of the day, etcetera.
before i move i'm definitely going to spend some time in whichever neighborhood i get serious about.

if you can, it won't be too bad to buy an apartment. probably a better investment.
- anzelina0
hmm.
maintenance, lot of work though?
- ********0
how much does apartment cost?
or house in brooklyn?

I don't really like Astoria. I get a wierd vibe about Queens. But a lot of people love it.
