just keep killing them then? That fixes the problem.
You fix a tree at the roots, not by chopping off the leaves.
The only fix is education and rehabilitation at an early age.
Who wants to bet this dude is from a poor inner city home with no male role model?

That's just it ric, Those aren't American values. To be fair, in the USSR they had free unlimited state funded education, but they also had Siberia.
- radar0
"free unlimited state funded education" was that part of the communist government?
- Mimio0
Yes
- Anarchitect0
yes.
- blaw0
the united states correction system is fucked.

(Apr 28 05, 09:20)Not totally... a tree, (at the roots) has already determined what kind of tree it will be. The shape however, and it's place in it's surroundings, CAN be shaped and formed in order to fit properly within the boundaries of the area that it occupies, by as you put it, 'chopping it's leaves off'.
Clearly this individual has no desire to be shaped into anything else, and therefore has become a serious problem for the rest of the foilage in the garden around the area he occupies.
He is NOT now, and has never been without his own choices to make in this life as to what is best for him long term. The same choices we've all made no matter our particular backgrounds or hardships.
All the rest is bullshit.

No question that his surroundings shaped who he is. And I think he should be psychologically evaluated and the outcome of that should be factored into his punishment. I just get a little uneasy about the trend towards the elimination of individual responsibility that is so prevalent in this nation. Seems like it's always Dad's fault. No doubt this is the case many times, but how bout pushing hard to overcome those set-backs. In a case like this, it doesn't matter what the sociological factors were when it comes down to sentencing.

Ghandolf,
That's like saying execute the retarded and the mentally ill just out of the sheer inconvenience of it all. Face it, if we emptied the mental institutions in this country there would be a lot more violent crime. Ask yourself why that's true.

I'm not saying he isn't guilty, or that he shouldn't be punished. I'm saying that if this guy's family and girlfriend said he's hearing voices, talking to himself, and he's having violent fits, he is most likely mentally ill, and there is a value to figuring out why, and there is a ethical obligation to not kill him out of vengence.
