will tell you if it is on there. 'convert' is a central application of image::magick.

Any recommendations? I am down to shop around, beats waiting for MT to email me back to tell me that they cant help me again.

Before moving over to the as, I was told that I would be "more than comfortable" with the mechanics of administering the as.

Actually, looking at MT - their prices have really come down!
I'm currently at Fluidhosting.com for almost 2 years - they're very supportive, but they also cost about $10/month more than MT on the base plan ..
- Solid0
Well, for the most part Plesk will allow you to do all the day-to-day stuff without a problem.
- deanstag0
that's good to know

Try it and see how it goes - you just got it right? There'll be some growing pains, but if you make minimal modifications (like the image magick install) then things should be relatively painless.
One thing I would do though is get a straight answer from MT regarding their support policy, including whether or not they provide paid support.
Because if you start providing hosting to clients, that's a fairly serious responsibility - you need to know that your host is going to be their for you if the sh#t hits the fan; and you also need to know what to expect from your host if/when that happens ..

Thanks, Solid. I have been on the phone with MT and they say that they don't provide software installation (paid or not) with AS plans.
They guarantee uptime and all that though and I do think that I can take care of the rest through plesk.
The only bitch is that if this is really as easy to install as eveeryone is suggesting, I don't understand why they wouldn't make this exception.

The other thing is that every shared server plan already has this installed and I fully expected it to be installed on the as as well.

Waiting to hear back from somebody a bit higher up at media temple to see if they can help me out.
But thanks for all your help/advice, Solid and Sparker. If MT decides that I am on my own, can I drop you guys an email about paying one of you install it for me?
Cosmo, hope you got it figured out.

deanstag - as someone who's a) high up at (mt) and b) has everything I've got on my own (as), I thought I should jump in and set the record straight here on a few points.
1) It is very easy to install ImageMagic, though you do need root access to your machine. Since having root is a big responsibility (as you can then hurt things) we always try to qualify people before just handing that out.
2) Even though it's easy for us to install, we do of course try to maintain our policies. If we do an installation, and then you want an upgrade for what is essentially a custom configuration, are we on the hook for that as well? In order to maintain a level of high quality support for our customer base, we do need to make it clear what we are and aren't responsible for so that people don't have the wrong expectation values.
3) Yes, there are cheaper VPS solutions that you can buy. They are cheaper for a reason. We use the best hardware that money can buy. All of our machines are HP ProLiant servers, with screaming fast SCSI drives in RAID for redundancy. All of this does cost a little more, but if you go with a whitebox server solution, and you blow a drive then you'll be wishing you'd spent the extra few dollars.
Now, having said all this, I'm more than happy to help you out getting ImageMagick up and going. Please give me a call at the office at 877-578-4000 x 525 or let me know what number I can reach you at. Thanks.
