I dunno,
I have met quite a few of Carson's peers, and the vast majority seem to think ill of him. These are people like Teal Triggs, Cathy McCoy, Susan Laporte, Jeff Keedy, Rick Valicenti, & Elliott Earls (all of emigre and/or cranbrook lineage). These folks, whom all come from a time when Carson was king; have shared quite a few stories with myself and other students about his work "ethics" regarding plagiarism and his attitudes toward women.
Whether these opinions were formed out of actual experience or jealousy I don't know... but I would think twice before holding Carson up a some sort of design "idol".

Not that I think Carson's work is "no-brainer", but I do remember many people describing it as such when it first came out.
