creativity cannot be taught. education helps equip people with the tools needed to harness that creativity but some have it and some don't. those who do can learn on their own as well. books can teach you what they do in school.
design is more art than science. comparisons to architecture don't really make sense. there are musicians who learn in school and there are those who learn on their own. some of the most creative and talented musicians have been the ones with no music schooling.
i guess its just two different schools of thought.
