No jpolk, I don't know the older designers or their significance. I'm reading that bio right now.

i'd say all in all not bad for a sociology teacher w/ 1 design class.

you may also dig these documentaries (not carson):
directed, shot and edited by Hillman Curtis.

you can look at a lot of that work back there and say it looks dated now, but back then it made a difference and the influences still carry through to today. I think that Brody's work looks really dated now but his influence back then was massive. Same goes for Carson and to a lesser extend Saville.
Saville's work stands the test of time more so than any of the others but not more than Bass, Brockmann, Rand (my favourites!)
All of them were a product of their time and all have been valid. It's pretty easy to knock someone like Carson now but enjoying the creative liberty he introduced.
I can't say I was a huge fan of Carson then or even now but I recognise the effect it had and respect him for it.

it's good to have a design discussion on here again by the way.

I've never liked his work and his use of his typography has always been awful. I can never understand how people still adopt his techniques today, especially Americans. And as for Brody http://www.researchstudios.com/ it looks as though he's never progressed. No attention to detail what so ever. His stuff ooks like student work....
No doubt my comments will annoy some people on here, and people will try to tell me I'm wrong!!!

Everything gets old/dated... Carson made an impact felt throughout the entire industry. Not many people can say they did that.
- ricstultz0
wtf is the deal with his site now tho?.. it looks like a mess. ouch.

Carson was the big boy at the time, it's always subjective whether you liked it or not, but it certainly helped break the formalaic rules that were set by some tutors when we were learning the craft, it helped me experiment with type. good on him i say. good work considering he didn't train in design/typography too.
