I always thought it did that bit *relatively* well, while of course being a tragedy for mankind overall...

I just got a G5 after five years of PC. While I must say I think the functionality of the PC makes a little more sense. For instance on the Mac if I want to add a folder when I'm in the side by side panel view I actually have to switch the view to a list view so that I can add it (there might be a better way of doing this, btw). I am enjoying the Mac a lot more than my PC.
I kow its probably not the right reason to like a computer but it seems to me that the GUI design is so much tighter coimpared to the PC...feels like it has a higher quality.
I don't like that when working in the programs on the mac that there is no background...your work panels just float above your desktop which I find really distracting and its easy to accidentally click on a panel from another program and wham...it switches over to that one. I liked that the PC has a full background on the program, seemed easier to focus on the task at hand.
there are a lot of quirks on the Mac that take some time to get used to if you've been on a PC for a while. But like I said I like the Mac better despite these small annoyances.

New folder: Cmd-shift-N
I love that there is no background...means I can jump around from task to task, and see how other things are progressing elsewhere (on a large monitor, and over two monitors)...always hated this idea on Windows that you only look at one application at a time... it's so 'consumer'.

Just use:

'New folder: Cmd-shift-N'
Dope thanks...there are too many damn shortcuts! They should offer some of these with just control+mouse.
I know it will just be a period of gettting used to things and learning shortcuts.
Thanks

'New folder' is also listed in the contextual menu if you Control-click on desktop or in a folder

or did I add that using Fruit Menu
BTW... Get Fruit Menu (and all their other stuff)

What if a Mac and Pc got together and GOT... IT .... ON!!!...
we should have a PS battle creating the love-child of a mac and a PC.

You can't be serious. Windows has always been the tried and true with multitasking.

makes more sense to me jackass... :P
But seriously there are a few things I try to do on the mac and it seems 20 times easier on the PC...but again I state, it's probably because I have been working on a mac for all of a week and a half compared to 5 years on a PC. One thing I hate is that when you drag and drop on a Mac it doesnt usually make a copy of that file it cut and pastes it...

I'm not talking about the technical quality of the multitasking (which sucked on OS9)...just the layout of stuff...what you can see while you work.

you gotta think though, they can both run the exact same design software. if cost is an issue and you're not an idiot and aren't going to click Yes when IE asks if you want to install BargainBuddy (or you just use FireFox), then you'll do just fine with PC.
my buddy is starting up a design firm. his wife started one about a year ago and she used all Mac: mac flat screens, G5s, a mac server, mac laptops... and her startup costs were very high. my friend is planning on using PC, because we can do the exact same things on PC. his startup costs are much, much lower, even with dual 19" samsungs and sony desktops at each workstation, so it's not like we're sacrificing style. we can still have our office look pretty sweet without having mac. of course there are more security issues with PC, but a knowledeable Windows user can easily keep themselves safe.
plus, on PC you can even make your computer look pretty much like a Mac. Here's how my current desktop looks (cropped, of course). Here's how an older one looked. personally, i like how Windows functions, since I've been using it for god knows how long. but i definately like the look of Mac (don't you hate how we really only have 2 options? Windows or OSX? yeah sure, linux or beos or whatever. i won't use them.)
anyways, i like Mac and I like PC. sorry this post is so long. soemtimes you get carried away...

aww it stripped out all the photo links. hmmmm

Thats pretty indescript as you can layout windows and skin it however the heck you want with and without third party applications. Its great. I still like OS X, I'm just paying respect where it's due. The possibilities as of current, are more available with windows.

oh yeah one more thing that comes to mind...why the fuck does the red x on a Mac window basically minimize the program?? The only case I can think of where it actually kills the window is with Safari or closing a document in PS or other design related programs...I think MS has it right...it should kill the app. Instead I sit here forgetting to apple+Q everything to close it, and I have 10 programs running.
agree? is there any advantage to the way they do it or is this Apple standing firm on an un-efficient way of doing things for the sake of being different?

dude you are killing your case for PC's, and Newstoday is punishing you.
oh another thing came to mind...don't you apple guys get pissed that you have to get an MS mouse so you can scroll? And right click?
