E, yeah shit has always been hitting the fan but that doesn't mean that all shit is the same shit.
that train and school hostage situation by certain molukkers was for a totally different reason, from a totally different perspective. you cannot possibly compare it with the current situation.

What I think is missing is a rational dialogue instead of a populist view. There are a lot of people on both sides right now that are very responsive to this populistic one-liner debate that’s been going on. They are easily affected by these Manichean (eye for an eye) views of politicians. This is very dangerous because it is causing even more polarization instead.

btw, that hijacking had nothing to do with religion. it had to do with the fact that the molukan (?) community in holland has been fucked over by the dutch government by making false promises.

True, but their main goal was an independent molukken. That’s what I meant with “religious” (should have used quotes). They were willing to sacrifice their own lives to achieve that goal just like these terrorists today.

I was not comparing their situations (although I argued they have similarities). I am comparing the situation the country is in and reacts to when something like this happens.

well if my memory recalls it right no schools or molukan related objects where burned, bombed or whatever, no right wing extremists using it as an argument to do whatever etc. the dynamics of society was way different back then.
