Third colum on the piece, follow the first link [and the nav i outlined] and the quote is at the top of the page.
i do like your idea for the copy. the reason why i related it to the western world, was to try and make more of a deeper connection with the target audience. the mag is focused around hip-hop urban lifestyle so thats why i used the example of the NBA player. i was never trying to pigeonhole them, just trying to make the piece hit a bit harder.
- zedvox0
i figured as much that use of western ideals were probably cuz the target was the west.
but in my experience speaking for a different culture genreally never works. i am an indian who has lived outside of india for the last decade...and there have been occasions when i have engaged in a political debate i have been toldthat i cannot possibly know what i am talking about by both indians and westerners because i am an outsider.
anyways i do not want to go into identity issues...
the idea of a child being a child should be universal. when i see the piece all i see is a little black kid with guns in hands but an aspiration of being an NBA star...and that takes away the impact because it comes across as that is the only way out.
perhaps speak about this from our own cultural point of view.. i dunno
sorry for rambling...

being an nba all-star, being a doctor, or being an astronaut.. these are things that we dream of being as kids (in our western society)...
these kids deserve the right to dream of being whatever they want, and not just about being a soldier, and about killing. that isn't what a child should be dreaming of. these kids deserve options, these kids deserve to have the same types of dreams and aspirations as we did when we were children. i do not believe many things are worth fighting for, but for this i would.

The UN are jokers and so are 95% of the Non-Profit/NGO's operating in 3d world countries. Such total BS.
- zedvox0
JazX i would also blame the politicians.
there isnt a a genuine desire to do good for others in this world. it has come down to power and money.thats why i am wary of the whole we are here to help you shit that gets thrown about

To quote Dean Martin: "The World still is the same, you never change it, as sure as the stars shine above, your nobody till somebody loves you".

Sure zedvox. Even more so in 3rd world countries, but it's prepetuated by the Western World as well. IMO nobody is innocent, just depends on when it is your doing bad. ;)
- zedvox0
i agree mr x.
there is no distinct good vs bad anymore.what are we gonna do about it? heh

So i get an email today containing the interview to go along with the piece.
I dont know what the fuck happened, but it seems like the mag had a change of heart! lol

please don't take this personally Xrtions, but i've always felt that design gets lame when graphic artists start on spreading phrases around. I'm not even talking about your piece, but most of the work today, and i say, most of it, is easy and mass opinionated. As art, graphic should convey a meaning graphically, use element to convey emotions, etc, etc.

-----------------------very valuable point.. maybe you should have only used graphic elements, not statements by text... it looks a bit like an ad for a charity org. or something. No offense meant, the graphics are well done, but you went to far by playing copywriter/journalist..
- DutchBoy0
oh in that case.. congrats, sir!

i dont understand why when they told you it doesnt have a werkburo feel, you were confused. if you look at your work on your site, and then this, it really doesnt feel like anything you've done.
the imagry on this piece is weak, the photos really dont jump out at you, and the type is so small at the bottom, and so obscure at the top, that it really doesnt have an impact.
another side note, you might want to cite the source of your information. not that people wont belive that this is happening in the world, but it makes the argument stronger when its backed with solid, reputable facts

nice coworkers that nick and xrtions are.. haha.. guess you are kidding?
