We [werkburo] were approach by a magazine to do an original piece of artwork and an interview for their upcoming issue.
The given theme for the piece was "Worth Fighting For." we decided there isn't too many things in this world worth fighting for, so we did a piece about child soldiers and how their freedom is worth fighting for.
So i submit the piece to them, and now they refuse to run our interview because the piece "isnt strong enough." Here is a link to the piece, i couldnt believe this....

I guess you should make a more experimetal piece instead of political message
- Xrtions0
i think it's more humanitarian than political.

man, that magazine is shit. i love the peice...it's got a great feel to it, playfull yet serious, and this is what the pictures show, a kid is playful and being shown in a serious situation. the drawings are great, they really bring the piece together....
i say good job. werkburo makes good shit! peace.

I think its fucking great and whatever magazine it is needs to get their fucking heads out of their asses...

it happens, dude. maybe they were not after social issues. they should have made it clear though
btw there's a mispell on "injured".

the should have given you guidlines if they were going to be that picky. they're wankers.
i like it.

word, good catch.
yeah i was on the phone with the CD of the mag while he explained to me that this piece "wasn't werkburo." like honestly, who is he to tell me what is or isnt werkburo?
and yes, maybe we could have take the piece a different route, but he asked what "worth fighting for" meant to werkburo, and thats how we felt....ah well

and it is political... any humanitarian cause has a ideological background.
maybe it's the easiness which surrounds these issues nowadays that they don't like.

I've done pich work for a magazine that carries a DVD, we didn';t win the pitch, but they nicked the idea.
nice guys.

thanks for that

It could be better, the design is a right mess to be perfectly honest.

"he explained to me that this piece "wasn't werkburo.""
maybe what he meant was that if he'd seen the piece with no knowledge of who had done it, he would never have guessed it came from you. i wouldn't take it personally.

Damn! I hate people that do that!

but i think the piece IS exactly werkburo. even aesthetically, it has the swiss information grid structure juxtaposed with a primitive illustrative style, to me, that is what werkburo is all about [aesthetically at least].

it's pretty rough that they didn't give you a better idea of what they were expecting but (and it's not meant as a dig) but is that your final concept or just a work up? If you were showing them the direction you were going then I think it's great. If it's your final piece it is a little light maybe?
It looks like a start to a great piece, but for me the b/w photography comes through the paint work too much...making the paintwork a little hard to pick up? It just needs more defining, a bit more tweaking and sweating over....
Saying all that if I got it as a concept for the brief you described I would commission you to finish it for sure!

Pierre...you are still a hard bastard!!!!

biggest thing that ticks me off, i explained the concept to them about a week before i started working on the piece and they were down. nothing strayed from our original concept.
yeah i hear what you're saying about the overlapping, but i wanted it to be rough and almost blend together to show, that given the chance, this is what these kids would be dreaming about.
who knows maybe they still are, but for the time being them are unfortunately just another casuality of war.

I like the concept and even the aesthetics suit yer message, but between the spelling mistake and bad grammer "These childrens freedom is worth fighting for" ??
I think it comes off a bit unprofessional, but I've seen Pound before and it seems par for the course.
Anyhow, don't sweat it , you guys are better than that.

"Pierre...you are still a hard bastard!!!!"
