"These childrens freedom is worth fighting for"
it was a play on the given theme which is also the motto of the magazine. about spelling/grammer, i know i suck arse and spelling, i would have passed it along to our copyrighter to review before i submitted the final piece to print, but we never made it that far.

that's the problem with all the design community :)
blame all art schools where most disciplines like literature or philosophy (which are the backbone of art since day 1) are replace by technological crap - making design and designers too easy.
here, i finally said it!
(not about you WerkB. 'tis about everything).

personally, i think the theme is bang on, i like the work even, but something for publication i felt it was too soft of a delivery
- Xrtions0
what do you mean by too soft?
- brandelec0
let's just say it was really nice to look at, but in the end i wasn't that convinced that their freedom is worth fighting for, in fact reading the strong the headers at the top makes me want to see something more hardcore, just my 2c

- Xrtions0

- brandelec0

the story of the boy getting killed by other captives with a stick, an image like that would hit home

graphic design is a great way of communicating to the masses.
It can change things, really can, it can inform, it can edcuate.
Most graphic communication we come across in mainstream magasines and advertising so not communicate such worthwhile ideas as you worked on.
It is a real shame that the mag didn't go with it.
I'd like to see more worthwhile design out there.
:(

I agree.
I believe that we are heading into the content generation [think Fahrenheit 9/11]. design has been shouldering the shallowness of style for too long and is getting ramped up to be the conduit for the amplification of narratives.

yeah more powerful photos would have been dope, but even to get those was hard. I had to raid the concordia library searching for photos to use, and then when i found those ones [which took hours] i had to cut them out with my exacto-knife :D
- brandelec0
don't get me wrong, the photos and the treatment are awesome, good job on the research, i was just gonna ask where you were able to find those photos

please don't take this personally Xrtions, but i've always felt that design gets lame when graphic artists start on spreading phrases around. I'm not even talking about your piece, but most of the work today, and i say, most of it, is easy and mass opinionated. As art, graphic should convey a meaning graphically, use element to convey emotions, etc, etc.
