-------------------Everytime I meet people from western countries who believe in socialism they say what was in Poland "was not real socialism". Yeah, right. In the last few years my country is being ruled by socialists again, chosen by my dumb countryfolks. Our very fresh and unstable economy went straight down. The idea of socialism is to support the poor, but the only way to do that is to steal from everyone else so nobody but the people in power has anything in the end. The huge socialist taxes make running a business in my country a joke. The government gives our taxmoney to farmers and miners who are too lazy to learn a new profession. A crowd of thousands of angry miners is a real threat to them, and of course, the crowd has voting power. So the govt keeps running businesses that only consume money. I don't feel like paying for that, I'd rather support myself and my family than a bunch of lazy bastards.
Learn history, socialism ruins the economy unless you live in a country that owns oil fields where nobody really needs to work. Possibly Karl Marx meant good, but it's just not working. How many times people have to get burnt in order to learn?
The Iraq issue is a different thing. I understand Spanish people had no business there (just as Poland), but ending up being ruled by commies is a sad story. Socialists are devastating Germany and France' s economies now. I only hope it doesn't spread further.

shaft: Didn't much of those problems stem from institionalised socialism that originated in a different political/economic/social climate?
Will you be celebrating enlargement with the rest of us?
I think a lot of the fear of the "dumb countryfolks" may stem from reduced security and transition to a new economic climate that is less favourable to a small scale agrarian lifestyle. maybe.

plus the German problem is largely due to the cost of reunification which will take a decade to even itself out.

"shaft: Didn't much of those problems stem from institionalised socialism that originated in a different political/economic/s ocial climate?"
Sure these did.
"Will you be celebrating enlargement with the rest of us?"
Not really, but that doesn't mean I am against it. On the contrary. I just don't feel I have to obey the propaganda and enjoy.
"I think a lot of the fear of the "dumb countryfolks" may stem from reduced security and transition to a new.."
Yes, it does. People vote for those who promise them security. Socialists say they will give people jobs. How can a politician "give jobs"? A new job position only comes available when a capitalist is running a succesful business. Socialists enlarged unemployment by oppressing small business. Small company owners will not make a crowd like the miners. They just work their asses off and get taxed more and more.
There's a lot of talk in Poland now, about which of the new EU countries will become "second Ireland" economically. I am sadly sure it will not be my country. I'd say Estonia, where they have flat income tax.

AFAIK in Germany you could get a loan for your new car while you are unemployed, because you are a sure payer. Could you do it in your country? Have you ever seen unemployed German people
travelling around the world on welfare money? Well, it's good for them. It's just that this money has to come from somewhere. Somebody has to be ripped off in order to allow others to collect the dough and relax. The taxes in Germany are extremely high. Worker's unions are strong. Plenty of companies plan to move out of Germany, including Siemens.
Schroeder says the new EU countries should rise taxes, because they're going to be too competitive for Germany.
To tell the truth I really count on the British to vote against the socialism-driven EU constitution.

Dave is smart. I'm with Dave and others. Unfit knows flash really well, so naturally, I am going to side with my coding brethren.
Forreal, Spain did the right thing. would be nice if instead of coffins coming home we had soldiers returning to their families. Then we could focus on the shit on our own soil. Although it has been easier for us (U.S.) to point finger at everyone else but ourself.
- Chip0
All entitled to our opinions.
Mine is with imp.
Spain gave the terrorists exactly what they wanted. Stupid.
If that's how they felt they should never have sent troops in the first place.
All or nothing at all.
- honda0
If that's all the terrorists wanted, why don't we all just back out the war? Then the terrorists will be happy with their lives, move on and become model citizens. Gawd, its all so simple now! perfect!
- AD___________0
Seems like a lot people see terrorism or terrorists as a bunch of Osama dudes running around killing just because.
Terrorism thrives on hate. Terrorism is hate. You can fight all the wars you want and you will NEVER get rid of terrorism. You'll never get rid of hate.
Terrorism is broad, vague and grey the idea of a "war on terrorism" is absurd - it's like a war on hatred or a war on pettiness...good luck
I'm not saying that Hippy lovefests are the solution either.
I don't know. Maybe change would come through both sides of the hate conceding something and perhaps through understanding. But more likely terrorism will live on forever.
I know it's crazy but asking why terrorism exists and how can it be lessened in none violent manners -aka not through war - just seems like the best way to defeat it. or at least start.
- Chip0
well said AD.

well speaking from experience - war won't solve terrorism. that's just moronic (almost as moronic as thinking a war in Iraq of all places will solve terrorism). Anyway, does it look like it's going that way? Cos if you think so, you may need to change the channel.
also Spain gave the Spanish people what they wanted not what the terrorists wanted. If that's not obvious it's probably not worth even discussing.
shaft: At least look forward to the social ties with the rest of Europe. Aside from the obvious difficulties/threats/ etc. I think its pretty cool and historically Poland knows more than most why the unified europe project has to work.
