Someone said: "No wonder that Jesus today would be crucified by people like Bush, Rumsfeld, all those ultra right-winged tv preachers, most folks at the Vatican... Oh, the irony! Those who claim to be his sons, would be his judges."
My, my, look who sits in judgement here! Perhaps you should accuse men of crimes they actually commit, not crimes you expect (or desire) them to commit. In fact I believe the Passion movie touches upon this issue.
To the rest of you: much (but admittedly not all) of your anti-catholic rhetoric is really the product of 150 years of propaganda by capitalists, communists, protestants and freemasons. I suggest a closer and more honest study of history before being quick to judge a culture that is one of the fundamental cornerstones of western civilization.

Ha ha, I smell some conservative rage... :P Man, don't tell me about the catholic church. I was born and grown up in Spain, went to a catholic school and had to swallow all of their lameness, so just don't telll me... Fundamental cornerstone of western civilization? My ass!

do I make sense?.. hahaha
"And I shit on those who use other people's guilt to do what they want. I despise them, oh my, how I despise them! "
sounds like you have some inner conflict man.
you just made my point.. the reason "racism" still exists is BECAUSE of people like Jesse Jackson who profit from the "plight" of black folks. It's like they look these people square in the eye and say "you are not good enough to live and work in this society on your own. You need me and big government to help you along because of your own misfortune."
this idea of "racism" would not exist at the level it does today if people at these organizations and radio programs were not employed just to remind the public of their racism everyday.
I'm reminded every tuesday and thursday when I listen to tavis smiley on npr.

Good point. Let's look at catholicism and what it's done for us. When Luther protested against the horrendously corrupt practices of the catholic church, he unwittingly touched off a century of warfare which levelled half of europe, including the 30 years' war, the hugenot persecutions, etc.
The pope then graciously divided the world between the 'good' catholic powers of spain and portugal in 1491, giving them a monopoly on looting and pillaging the new world. What were those savage tribes in the new world like before they came into contact with the oh-so-civilized catholics? They welcomed them with open arms, gave them food and shelter, accepted them into their midst (like good christians should) and, for their troubles, were either enslaved, killed, or levelled by imported diseases (not just the common cold, but also syphillis and friends).
Capitalism totally destroyed their communal ways of life, all around the world, by being forced to adopt to cash-crop agriculture, the neverending circle of debt, slavery, etc, all with the blessing of the cross.
I agree that you can't blame jesus, i mean, the guy wasn't even a christian, but religion hasn't exactly been a boon to many.

No rage. Lots of disappointment though.
As for 'conservatism', I'm not really sure what it means anymore. If it means 'conserving' whatever sanity we have left in this world... then sure. If it means conserving all of the convenient evils of the past so that I may exploit people... then no.
While many so-called 'conservatives' use convention or tradition to exercise (abuse) power, liberals and radicals tend to invent completely new evils to do essentially the same thing: 'exercise power'. Just because something is new or different doesn't make it good.
Also, don't base judgement of 1300 years of civilization on bad experiences in catholic grade school. That's a little narrow minded.
Anyways, interesting discussion but I gotta go. Cheers!

Capitalism is the natural enemy of catholicism and vice versa. So is communism and fascism. All of these socio-economic systems have tried to abolish the church, not to mention slander it.
Catholicism has fed more hungry bellies and covered more naked backs than capitalism or communism combined.
Ha. I guess you guys are assuming I am some kind of a hardcore catholic. Just for the record I'm not.

I didn't talk about bad experiences... What I was trying to say is that at the moment I was mature enough to go back to the past and analyze certain things, I just realized all the shit they tried to teach me. Of course I've known great persons inside the catholic church, but I just don't trust any kind of organized religion. Protestant shit will smell as bad as catholic, muslim or jewish one. And talking about narrow minds... John Paul II? ;)

"Like their Muslim friends still harping about the Crusades, liberals won't "move on""
I find that statement deeply offensive in that article. But i guess it's open-season on muslims these days.

Uhhhh...Dutchboy, I don't think you are looking for objective articles then. Articles that leave the question of facts open, i.e. open to the skeptic, are subjective, not objective. An objective article would state "2+2=4" and not doubt it. A subjective article would state "2+2=4?"
Just so we're clear on our use of terms...

They gave the Passion a score of 69 out of 100 on the "corrupting" index cos it had - "Drinking wine repeatedly", and "flash nudity, clearly non-sexual but nudity nonetheless"

Gibson's movie is one of the greatest works of fiction I've seen on the big screen.

The crucifixion of Christ is one of the most historically attested events.

one2meny, i meant articles that refer to facts without bias, as i notice in these articles the facts are often solely gathered to prove a point in an often lopsided article.
I have seen articles, not specifically on this flick though, that dare to challenge 'facts' with valid counterpoints, as I see that article do that as well, it still hardly questions it's own point of view.

froww, divinity wasn't proven by the crucifixion though. Many people were crucifued.
- froww0
Correct, sir. Divinity was proven when he conquered death by rising from the grave.
