"I suggest a closer and more honest study of history before being quick to judge a culture that is one of the fundamental cornerstones of western civilization. "

Good point. Let's look at catholicism and what it's done for us. When Luther protested against the horrendously corrupt practices of the catholic church, he unwittingly touched off a century of warfare which levelled half of europe, including the 30 years' war, the hugenot persecutions, etc.
The pope then graciously divided the world between the 'good' catholic powers of spain and portugal in 1491, giving them a monopoly on looting and pillaging the new world.

What were those savage tribes in the new world like before they came into contact with the oh-so-civilized catholics? They welcomed them with open arms, gave them food and shelter, accepted them into their midst (like good christians should) and, for their troubles, were either enslaved, killed, or levelled by imported diseases (not just the common cold, but also syphillis and friends).
Capitalism totally destroyed their communal ways of life, all around the world, by being forced to adopt to cash-crop agriculture, the neverending circle of debt, slavery, etc, all with the blessing of the cross.
I agree that you can't blame jesus, i mean, the guy wasn't even a christian, but religion hasn't exactly been a boon to many.
