I could never follow a god who encourages rape of virgins and murder.
"Kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known man ... , keep alive for yourselves."
[Moses, relaying God's orders to his people, Numbers 31:17-18]

That's because God never said shit to Moses, or anyone else for that matter...
Praise be to Mal.

please god....stop the god talk
- froww0
That was Moses directive... not God's. Moses was a fallible human, like you and me.

arguing with people who can only think with their minds and not hearts its pointless
- Mimio0
The heart pumps blood, it doesn't discern belief or compassion.
- froww0
Mimio - nobody wishes death upon anybody here... that's a terrible accusation to make. I wish life on you. I'm just sharing an alternate viewpoint. Sorry you find "arrogance" in that. And, as for motives... I'm not sure what I have in the way of selfish gain by sharing what I believe to be truth.
John 5:24
"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

"heart" is a metaphor for the spirit.
- Mal0
"But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me."
[Jesus, Luke 19:27]
- Mimio0
Froww, sorry you can't see beyond the indicting nature of your beliefs and your words. When someone doesn't share your beliefs it's best not to claim universal/supernatural knowledge. It's not a reasonable excuse.
- Mimio0
Are metaphors necessary for superstitious beliefs about the body?
- junetic0
Nietzsche, who said: "God is dead," finally went insane.

Again, a text out of context becomes a pretext.
Luke 19 - Jesus is sharing a parable (fictional story) about a king and his servants.

in every humans chest there beats a heart...the heart is what regulates the flow of the one blood of humanity....it's so spiritual that it doesn't need the props.....

Hmmm, I don't recall claiming "universal/supernatural knowledge." Thought I was just sharing a viewpoint (and a rather unpopular one). I realize, however, that it automatically puts one on the defensive and play the "fanatic fundamentalist" card when some claims to have truth that is absolute - especially in such a pluralistic and wishy-washy culture as ours. Regardless, please don't shoot the messenger... I'm only relaying information that has existed for quite some time. I don't claim to have invented anything I've shared. It is your choice to believe that anything of an immaterial, spiritual nature is "superstition". I used to believe that too. I then realized it was all in the under a pseudo-intellectual guise.
- Mimio0
Faith is one thing, but superstition tells people not to eat pork because they believe God deems it "unclean", or that demons exist to deceive humanity and corrupt our "souls". Religion teeters precariously between logical truths and superstitions in order to create a indoctrinated believers. Satiating the believer's sense of reason and making a drunken deluge out of his ego simultaneously. Nonetheless it's a mixture of both, much like a clever lie constructed to keep a child in line for their own benefit.
- junetic0
blah blah blah...go eat some pork mimio...but I do appreciate the way you described religion as a "clever lie constructed to keep a child in line for their own benefit"...I agree with some of the brainwashing that occurs b/c of various repeated rituals and 'preachings' constantly digested on a regular basis by religious people...but I have nothing else to say to someone with your views as you can only find out for yourself...and btw, I do not go to church, am not a christian, but DO believe in truths higher than my being and intellect and struggle to grow faith....

it's when the lies promise a duplication of this reality in the next that it gets tricky....learn to not want what you already have.

Stained glass windows keep the cold outside
While the hypocrites hide inside
With the lies of statues in their minds
Where the Christian religion made them blind
Where they hide
And prey to the God of a bitch spelled backwards is dog
Not for one race, one creed, one world
But for money
Effective
AbsurdThis is religion
There’s a liar on the altar
The sermon never falter
This is religionDo you pray to the Holy Ghost when you suck your host
Do you read who’s dead in the Irish Post
Do you give away the cash you can’t afford
On bended knees and pray to lord
Fat pig priest
Sanctimonious smiles
He takes the money
You take the liesThis is religion
A liar on the altar
Sermon never falter
This is religionThis is religion and Jesus Christ
This is religion cheaply priced
This is bibles full of libel
This is sin in eternal hymn
This is what they’ve done
This is your religion
The apostles were eleven
Now there’s a sod in HeavenThis is religion
Liar on the altar
The sermon never falter
This is religionThis is religion
This is religion
This is religion
This is religionThis is religion
A liar on the altar
A sermon never falter
This is religionThis is religion
Your religion
And it’s all falling to bits gloriously
This is religion
