"I’m worried. We’ve just elected a talented young president with many good instincts about how to propel our country forward, extend health care to more people, make our tax code fairer and launch a green industrial revolution. But do you know what I fear? I fear that his whole first term could be eaten by Citigroup, A.I.G., Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, and the whole housing/subprime credit bubble we inflated these past 20 years.
I hope my fears are exaggerated. But ask yourself this: Why couldn’t former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson solve this problem? And why does it seem as though his successor, Tim Geithner, won’t even look us in the eye and spell out his strategy? Is it because they don’t get it? No. It is because they know — like Roy Scheider in the movie “Jaws,” when he first saw the great white shark — that “we’re gonna need a bigger boat,” and they’re too afraid to tell us just how big."

politicians are obliged to claim that they can "do something" about anything, else they are first to get it in the neck, regardless of where blame really lies.
None of them can save this, its all about damage limitation and setting us up to deal with what the next 30 years will be like in a positive manner.
Still much better that you have Obama to find those ways, even if his treasury guys can't do really very much about the financial system. We gave up control over how far down hill it would roll years ago, can't turn the clock back.
At least you have someone with ideas. We over here are utterly fucked,m with no one to turn to, no matter what anyone may have been persuaded about the "new" tories. More of the same, only maybe worse for large sections of society is our only alternative choice, if you discount lootings, burning, lynchings and mass unrest.

I have to write an article today for a technology magazine. Deadline is this afternoon, I was asked to write it this morning, in between all my other work, which continues to pile up. Its a technology magazine, I'm a designer with an interest in what could vaguely be described as marketing. I have no idea what would be appropriate to write *about* let alone an actual subject for this thing.
Oh well. I'll let you know how it goes.
